Seva<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Tsivgas<\/span>, a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>d<\/span>iplomacy &\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>nternational\u00a0<\/span>r<\/span>elations<\/span>\u00a0major, minoring in cyber security, Spanish, and economics<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>hit off<\/span>\u00a0her<\/span>\u00a0senior year by<\/span>\u00a0starting out an<\/span>\u00a0internship at UNICEF USA.\u00a0<\/span>There, s<\/span>he serves as a\u00a0<\/span>Global Cause Partnerships<\/span>\u00a0(GCP)<\/span>\u00a0Intern<\/span>, where she\u00a0<\/span>helps oversee the transfer of funds from donors to\u00a0<\/span>their intended programming at UNICEF.\u00a0<\/span>Tsivgas<\/span>\u00a0also researches new organizations to build partnerships\u00a0<\/span>and help<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>fundraise.\u00a0<\/span>Most<\/span>\u00a0of these organizations\u00a0<\/span>can be grouped in as\u00a0<\/span>corporate, faith based, club based,\u00a0<\/span>or<\/span>\u00a0foundational partnerships<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tsivgas<\/span>\u00a0believes<\/span>\u00a0the most rewarding aspect of her internship is to \u201cbe part of something greater,\u201d where she can see the direct results of\u00a0<\/span>her contributions.\u00a0<\/span>Recently,\u00a0<\/span>she\u00a0<\/span>saw<\/span>\u00a0how the cause transcends a\u00a0<\/span>New York City Office after being tasked<\/span>\u00a0with\u00a0<\/span>writing an article to announce the eradication of maternal and neonatal tetanus<\/span>\u00a0(MNT)<\/span>\u00a0in the Democratic Republic of Congo.\u00a0<\/span>Tsivgas<\/span>\u00a0believes it\u00a0<\/span>is one\u00a0<\/span>thing to learn about UNICEF USA\u2019s efforts towards eradicating polio, but another to create content to help promote<\/span>\u00a0them<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>As a result of UNICEF\u2019s efforts, only 12 countries remain with a high risk of\u00a0<\/span>MNT<\/span>, which is down from 59 countries in 2000<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Tsivgas<\/span>\u00a0was\u00a0<\/span>also given the opportunity<\/span>\u00a0to write a\u00a0<\/span>toolkit for volunteers to\u00a0<\/span>review<\/span>\u00a0at\u00a0<\/span>W<\/span>orld\u00a0<\/span>P<\/span>olio\u00a0<\/span>D<\/span>ay<\/span>\u00a0on October 24.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>speaking with the Chief Financial Officer of UNICEF USA,\u00a0<\/span>Tsivgas<\/span>\u00a0concluded\u00a0<\/span>\u201cevery sin<\/span>gl<\/span>e person who works at UNICEF USA has a direct impact towards what we do abroad.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0If\u00a0<\/span>a team member<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>struggles in doing a<\/span>\u00a0tedious task, they can go to a meeting and hear about its effects towards children abroad.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked about prior\u00a0<\/span>leadership roles<\/span>\u00a0she believed help<\/span>ed prepare her for this experience,\u00a0<\/span>Tsivgas<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>cited her\u00a0<\/span>time spent as a<\/span>n At-Large S<\/span>enator<\/span>\u00a0and Parliamentarian<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>at Seton Hall University\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0Student Government Association and\u00a0<\/span>a\u00a0<\/span>Women\u2019s Empowerment Intern at International Rescue Committee.\u00a0<\/span>At these organizations<\/span>, she was\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>able to make a lot of professional relationships with other student leaders and organizations. I was also able to\u00a0<\/span>expand the portfolio of the IRC\u2019s employer network. We would work with employers to help refugees find jobs through building healthy relationships.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Tsivgas<\/span>\u00a0also serves as the President of\u00a0<\/span>SHU\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0Women in Diplomacy\u00a0<\/span>program, where she<\/span>\u00a0continues to draw encouragement from<\/span>\u00a0in her responsibilities to create\u00a0<\/span>more partnerships with women\u2019s empowerment organizations.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Additionally,\u00a0<\/span>Tsivgas<\/span>\u00a0drew inspiration from her grandmother\u00a0<\/span>who immigrated to the United States from Greece.\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI heard all these stories about my grandmother<\/span>\u2019s experience living in poverty, working as a housekeeper in a hotel or working in a luggage factory<\/span>.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>Tsivgas<\/span>\u2019 inspiration turned into motivation<\/span>, as these stories inspire her to continue being a force of change.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve always been passionate about helping displaced people<\/span>\u2026 especially when they are forced to navigate all the\u00a0<\/span>saddening<\/span>\u00a0experiences people have after leaving a home country.<\/span>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>She added,\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>It took her decades to see the benefit\u00a0<\/span>of moving to the United States and I\u00a0<\/span>want to be able to help people<\/span>\u00a0in new situations<\/span>\u00a0so that others won\u2019t have it as rough as my grandmother did.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
