Unfortunately, no Prince Charming can save the day for what the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2025\/mar\/23\/snow-white-review-disney-toe-curlingly-terrible-live-action-remake-rachel-zegler-gal-gadot\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Observer<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> describes as a \u201ctoe-curlingly terrible\u201d film.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rachel Zegler, who stars as Snow White, had her big break in the film adaptation of the musical <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">West Side Story,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> where she became recognized for her multifaceted range of talents. The racism she experienced on that set carried over to her role as Snow White. According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/film\/2025\/mar\/19\/rachel-zegler-says-west-side-story-executives-repeatedly-asked-her-to-prove-latina-heritage\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Guardian<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, while on the set of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">West Side Story, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">white executives repeatedly asked Zegler, who is\u00a0 of Columbian-American descent, to prove that she is Hispanic. While interviewing with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.allure.com\/story\/rachel-zegler-cover-interview\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Allure<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in the run-up to Snow White\u2019s released, Zegler discussed her cultural identity, commenting \u201cThere\u2019s confusion because I don\u2019t have a single ounce of Latin in my name\u2026When I was in the running for Mar\u00eda in West Side Story, they kept calling to ask if I was legit. I remember thinking, \u2018Do you want me to bring my Abuelita in? I will. I\u2019ll bring her into the studio if you want to meet her.\u2019\u201d When Zegler was announced to be playing Snow White in 2022, she was harassed online for her skin color, as it isn\u2019t \u201cas white as snow,\u201d according to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cx29x6569x2o\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">BBC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The BBC report additionally states that some of Zegler\u2019s early comments about the film in 2022 sparked controversy as well: the actress coined the original film as outdated, specifically \u201c\u2026when it comes to the ideas of women being in roles of power.\u201d This commentary came with claims that Snow White\u2019s prince stalked her, rather than the traditional take that he saved her with true love\u2019s first kiss from the Evil Queen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But Rachel Zegler wasn\u2019t alone in giving Disney negative attention for the film.\u00a0 Online critics claim that Gal Gadot was not acting, as they truly believe she is an Evil Queen. Since the attack by Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023, Gadot has shared her support for the nation, despite the ongoing attacks it is carrying out against the Palestinians living in Gaza. Immediately following the attacks, in an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/gal_gadot\/p\/CyHF5n1t322\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Instagram<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> post, the star shared \u201cI stand with Israel, you should too.\u201d That wasn\u2019t the problem though. As Israel\u2019s bombardment on Gaza has continued for almost two years, with Reuters reporting that Israel\u2019s campaign has murdered more than 50,000 people, with nearly under a third of victims being under 18, Gadot has continued to defend Israel\u2019s actions, not condemning the state for any of the humanitarian crimes it is currently and has historically committed against Palestinians. In a new interview with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/features\/gal-gadot-snow-white-wonder-woman-walk-of-fame-1236339602\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Variety<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Gadot would not discuss her politics, other than that as a descendant of a Holocaust survivor, she is advocating for the hostages.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On the opposite end of the spectrum, her costar, Rachel Zegler, received a slew of online threats for apost she shared on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/rachelzegler\/status\/1823146134769893534?lang=en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">X<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that states \u201cand always remember, free Palestine,\u201d to a post that thanked fans for their support for her role in Snow White. Jonah Platt, son of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Snow White<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> producer, Marc Platt, slammed her online for her pro-Palestine stance, calling her a \u201cnarcissist,\u201d as his father allegedly had to fly out to New York to reprimand her for \u201cdragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for,\u201d according to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/26\/entertainment\/snow-white-producers-son-unloads-on-immature-rachel-zegler\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">New York Post<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. His comment has since been deleted, as several Instagram users responded, calling him hypocritical for condemning Zegler as being too political for supporting Palestine but not Gadot for supporting Israel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since the movie premiered, multiple social media users shared videos of empty theatres, and the film has seen disappointing box office returns.\u00a0 The film cost $270 million to make and was reshot multiple times due to scheduling drawbacks and criticism. In opening weekend, it only earned $43 million, according to Variety.
