Once believed to be one of the strongest military forces in the Middle East, the advanced border fence near Gaza was easily breached by militant forces who simultaneously launched thousands of rockets into Israeli territory. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/10\/09\/1204577965\/israel-intelligence-security-hamas-gaza\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">NPR<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> reports that most of the Israeli Defense Forces\u2019 focus, including most of their resources and assets, has been on the West Bank, where young Palestinian men have been launching their own initiatives against Israel. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/10\/10\/world\/middleeast\/israel-gaza-security-failure.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The New York Times<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> states that, \u201cthe brazen infiltration of more than 20 Israeli towns and army bases in that raid was the worst breach of Israel\u2019s defenses in 50 years and shattered the nation\u2019s sense of security.\u201d Prior to the assault, it was believed that Hamas was not looking for escalation, even ending riots along the border. As the death toll following the attacks in Israel and Gaza continue to mount, people across the world are calling into question what this conflict means for the stability not only of the Middle East, but the rest of the world as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Tension within the region have been sharply rising as nations such as Iran and the United States warn of possible escalation. In a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/press.un.org\/en\/2023\/sc15451.doc.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">United Nations Security Council briefing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on October 16, Tor Wennesland, Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process said, \u201cThe events of the past 11 days have served to reignite grievances and reanimate alliances across the region. The risk of an expansion of the conflict if very, very real and extremely dangerous.\u201d Similarly, Joe Biden cautioned Israel to \u201cnot be blinded by rage\u201d during a presidential address following his recent trip to Tel Aviv, reports <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/10\/19\/israel-hamas-war-gaza-live-updates-latest-news.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CNBC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. He also encouraged Congress to put in an urgent budget request to help support both Israel and Ukraine in their current conflicts. This followed the United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken\u2019s six-country tour through Arab nations that was aimed and preventing the conflict from escalating into a broader regional conflict, writes <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/israel-palestinians-gaza-hamas-war-refugees-6cf0ff04e513ecec12cf9152656ac1b6\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Associated Press<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/traveladvisories\/traveladvisories\/worldwide-caution.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">U.S. Department of State<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> has also issued a worldwide caution to U.S. citizens citing, \u201cincreased tensions in various locations around the world, the potential for terrorist attacks, demonstrations or violent actions against U.S. citizens and interests.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian warned Israel of potential escalation if they go through with a ground invasion of Gaza, telling <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2023\/10\/15\/iran-warns-israel-of-regional-escalation-if-gaza-ground-offensive-launched\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Al Jazeera<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on October 14, \u201cIf the Zionist entity [Israel] decides to enter Gaza, the resistance leaders will turn it into a graveyard of the occupation soldiers.\u201d Despite rejecting claims that Tehran was involved in Hamas\u2019 assault on Israel, Amir-Abdollahian discussed continued cooperation during a meeting with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Qatar on October 14. He has also visited Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria which represents diplomatic engagements to stop Israeli attacks.
