President Biden promised to restore <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the nuclear agreement during his 2020 presidential campaign, yet negotiations appear to be delayed ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. Withdrawing from the deal in 2018, former <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">President <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/05\/08\/us\/politics\/trump-speech-iran-deal.html?action=click&amp;module=Intentional&amp;pgtype=Article\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Donald Trump<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> claimed that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cthis was a horrible one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The nuclear deal, between Iran, the five permanent UN Security Council members and Germany, aimed to curb Tehran\u2019s ability to produce nuclear weapons and material supply in exchange for the removal of strict economic sanctions imposed by the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">U.S., E.U., and UN on Iran.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Since the abandonment of the deal during the Trump Administration, Tehran has violated the terms of the deal by enriching uranium to 60 percent and not allowing for the International Atomic Energy Agency to do their inspections, explains <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/iran-uranium-enrichment-60-percent-ed89e322595004fddc65fd4e31c1131b\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">AP<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, increasing tensions as the nation grows closer to weapons-grade levels. The EU is trying to find a compromise, but producing a pact soon seems unlikely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The three European powers, France, Britain, and Germany have raised concerns over Iran\u2019s reliability in the agreement as uranium particles were found at three undeclared sites by the IAEA. As Iran has yet to clarify why traces of nuclear matter were found, the nation <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">is demanding the IAEA to terminate its investigations into its nuclear activity. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The European countries said in a joint statement that they doubt Iran\u2019s commitment to a legitimate deal reports <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/france-britain-germany-say-irans-stance-iaea-probe-jeopardises-nuclear-talks-2022-09-10\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Reuters<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For more than a month, Washington and Tehran have been exchanging comments regarding the revival of the deal. A State Department representative stated that the U.S. is ready to \u201cquickly conclude a deal,\u201d along with EU Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borell who stated on <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JosepBorrellF\/status\/1556669265616539648\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Twitter<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that \u201cwhat can be negotiated has been negotiated, and it\u2019s now in a final text.\u201d Amidst indirect conversations and negotiations, the U.S. is offering to lift all sanctions imposed in exchange for the restoration of nuclear program constraints and commitments under the 2015 pact.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian discussed with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2022\/1\/14\/us-blinken-says-only-few-weeks-left-to-save-iran-nuclear-deal\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Al Jazeera<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that the deal may be reached only if\u00a0 \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">all forms of sanctions stipulated in the nuclear agreement were lifted.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> If an agreement were to be made, Iran\u2019s economy would benefit from the expansion of oil exports and other materials, along with having access to foreign exchange reserves and the global financial system for trade.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Supporters of the deal have urged Iran and the U.S. to come to an agreement because, without one, Tehran\u2019s developments will become difficult to reverse. French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna explained how the world needs \u201cto avoid a nuclear catastrophe,\u201d and advises Iran to accept the deal alluding to the aggressive Ukraine-Russia and China-Taiwan conflicts, reports the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/united-nations-general-assembly-russia-ukraine-iran-france-c88c8be913eb930cbe529368b6943a2d\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Associated P<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ress<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Efforts to revive the nuclear pact have continued to reach a stalemate as the United Nations General Assembly\u2019s 77<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Session on September 20 commenced. President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran made his first appearance addressing the United Nations, reiterating that his government is serious about the deal while raising concerns over trust in the U.S commitment to the deal and seeking stronger assurance that the deal will not be abandoned.
