Are graduate students—teaching assistants (TAs), research assistants (RAs) and Graduate assistants (GAs)—employees?   Or do they occupy a different status under contemporary American labor law?  In order to answer this question, two decisions of the National Labor Relations Board will be analyzed:  New York University and Brown University—yielding very different results and very different consequences!
