Several city traditions such as Broadway and the Met Gala have returned after last year\u2019s cancelations due to the pandemic. One of the most prominent events in the city includes New York Fashion Week. Organized by the\u00a0Council of\u00a0Fashion\u00a0Designers\u00a0of America\u00a0(CFDA), New York Fashion week is a biannual series of runways\u00a0shows\u00a0and demonstrations\u00a0used by designers\u00a0to present their collections for the upcoming fashion seasons.\u00a0Typically,\u00a0New York fashion week brings over 230,000 visitors to the city and generates approximately 900 million\u00a0dollars\u00a0for the\u00a0city\u2019s\u00a0economy. With a year long hiatus, designers went all out for this\u00a0year\u2019s\u00a0event using unconventional and creative ways to show off their new collections.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:480}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Designers\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Ev Bravado and\u00a0T\u00e9la\u00a0D\u2019Amore\u00a0used a unique setting to reveal their fourth collection of\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Who\u00a0Decides\u00a0War.<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0This collection is an homage to military styled clothing and\u00a0this\u00a0year\u2019s\u00a0collection added biblical and American history elements to the mix. Styles included bomber jackets with\u00a0appliques\u00a0resembling stained glass\u00a0windows\u00a0of prominent American\u00a0activist\u00a0figures such as Malcom\u00a0X\u00a0and\u00a0Martin\u00a0Luther\u00a0King\u00a0Jr. The runway was set up on the\u00a0dock of the Intrepid with\u00a0World\u00a0War II\u00a0fighter\u00a0planes flying above models as they\u00a0worked in conjunction with the designs to\u00a0create a story about God,\u00a0America,\u00a0and war.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:480}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">While on the topic of\u00a0unusual\u00a0runway settings,\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Tombogo\u2019s<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0performance took place on a rooftop garden in the city. The theme of the collection titled\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Nature is\u00a0Healing<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0has a double meaning\u00a0of\u00a0the return society is making towards the pre pandemic lifestyle, but\u00a0also\u00a0the strong overtones of nature\u00a0allude to the climate crisis.\u00a0The collection connects to\u00a0the efforts that need to be made to heal both the\u00a0environment\u00a0and our society after the events which occurred in 2020.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:480}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 298px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/static01.nyt.com\/images\/2021\/09\/13\/fashion\/13NYFW-WOWMOMENT-telfar\/13NYFW-WOWMOMENT-telfar-superJumbo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"298\" height=\"298\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Telfar during NYFW\u00a0<em>(Photo courtesy of Getty Images)<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0Telfar<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0demonstration\u00a0included something never seen before\u00a0as the brand hosted a press conference\u00a0revealing\u00a0their new idea for\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Telfar\u00a0TV<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">. This is an application that will be available on\u00a0Apple and\u00a0Roku\u00a0TV. The concept behind this idea is to give the company more control over its connection with consumers. How it will work;\u00a0consumers will watch\u00a0<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"none\">Telfar\u00a0TV\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"none\">and use a QR code that appears at the screen to purchase the items\u00a0of their choice. The brand no longer wholesales\u00a0their bags to stores,\u00a0,\u00a0they are switching to this modality which\u00a0eliminates\u00a0influence from social media algorithms and gives the designers more control over\u00a0marketing and\u00a0consumer\u00a0information. This new method of shopping and is still in its testing phase.
