Walt Disney Co. announced Friday that the movies set to\u00a0release\u00a0this year will be shown exclusively in theaters before they are released on other platforms.\u00a0\u00a0The movie of the summer,\u00a0Black Widow,\u00a0much awaited by audiences had been released on both Disney+ and theaters. Much to the actress\u2019s dismay,\u00a0Black Widow\u2019s release on Disney+ generated\u00a0a revenue of\u00a0$80 million,\u00a0which was in violation of\u00a0Scarlett\u2019s contract. Marvel\u2019s Chief Counsel, David\u00a0Galluzzi,\u00a0had\u00a0assured the actress that the movie would\u00a0be treated the same as the rest of the Marvel movies and\u00a0would\u00a0only be released\u00a0in\u00a0theatres.\u00a0This was an issue particularly\u00a0because Johansson\u2019s salary is\u00a0mainly\u00a0from\u00a0box office sales and, given the pandemic situation,\u00a0it was\u00a0likely that people would avoid cinemas. In estimate,\u00a0Scarlett Johansson has lost $50 million\u00a0but earned\u00a0$20 million\u00a0as a\u00a0\u201cbasic\u201d\u00a0fee for the character.<\/p>\n

Disney\u2019s defender, Bob\u00a0Chapek,\u00a0explains that as a result of the impressive growth in talent,\u00a0Disney wishes to resort to\u00a0its\u00a0dual\u00a0methods of media launching\u00a0and\u00a0also\u00a0due to\u00a0the fact that\u00a0there is a change in consumer behavior\u00a0from\u00a0the ongoing pandemic at\u00a0the time of the debut. Disney seems to have come to new terms upon its marvel movie releases\u00a0in\u00a0an\u00a0attempt to\u00a0avoid the mistake of\u00a0Black Widow.<\/p>\n

Given the success of the first Asian American Marvel movie \u201cShang-chi\u201d grossed at\u00a0$247.6 million\u00a0globally, Disney\u2019s Marvel Cinematic Unit will be releasing the rest of the movies planned in 2021 in theaters. The condition is to play these movies in theaters\u00a0exclusively for 45 days and after that period,\u00a0the movies will be released on Disney+. These movies are\u00a0to be released in theaters first are as follows:\u00a0The Last Duel,\u00a0Ron\u2019s Gone Wrong,\u00a0Eternals,\u00a0West Side Story, and\u00a0The King\u2019s Man.<\/p>\n
