From his criticism of NATO member states, to his withdrawal of Military support from Northern Syria, Trump\u2019s administration has been one of change and consequence. Following President-Elect Joe Biden\u2019s victory on November 7th, international leaders had varying reactions from relief, to telling silence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Commission, congratulated Biden in a statement <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/STATEMENT_20_2055\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">saying<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, \u201cAs the world continues to change and new challenges and opportunities appear, our renewed partnership will be of particular importance.\u201d Biden is likely to oversee a return to the Obama-style internationalist diplomacy that fostered cordial relations with the EU. Nonetheless, Biden is unlikely to completely reverse-course or simply appease the leading EU member states. As under President Obama, Biden is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/polandin.com\/50343777\/joe-biden-to-oppose-nord-stream-2-gas-pipeline-electoral-staff\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">likely to oppose<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the Russia-to-Germany gas pipeline Nord Stream 2. Russian President Vladimir Putin has<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/election-us-2020-54871890\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> yet to acknowledge<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Biden\u2019s victory. Biden, a strong opponent to growing Russian foreign influence, is likely seen as a source of concern among Russian leadership which has benefitted from a softer American stance towards Russia under President Trump.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Even some of Trump\u2019s firmest rightwing allies have ignored his false claims regarding voter fraud and gave warm statements regarding Biden\u2019s victory. The leaders of India, Egypt, and Poland, avoided supporting Trump\u2019s unsubstantiated claims and acknowledged Biden\u2019s victory. Indian PM Narendra Modi congratulated Biden and also noted Vice President-Elect Kamala\u2019s Indian heritage <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/narendramodi\/status\/1325145671742054400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">tweeting on the 7th<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, \u201cHeartiest congratulations @KamalaHarris! Your success is pathbreaking, and a matter of immense pride not just for your chittis, but also for all Indian-Americans. I am confident that the vibrant India-US ties will get even stronger with your support and leadership.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The small village of Thulasendrapuram in Southern India, the birth place of Harris\u2019s maternal grandfather,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2020\/nov\/08\/kamala-harris-south-india-joy-daughter-of-our-village\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> reacted to the election<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with immense pride and celebration. Residents wrote messages of support on signs, held pictures of the Vice President-Elect and lit fire crackers to celebrate.
