Week of 4\/23 (3-1)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Seton Hall baseball team rounded out their week of action with an 11-2 victory over Villanova on Sunday to bring their weekly record to 3-1.<\/p>\n

After stumbling through Wednesday’s non-conference matchup with\u00a0NJIT, the Pirates rebounded with a three-game series sweep of the Villanova Wildcats. The conference series sweep was the second\u00a0consecutive\u00a0for The Hall and improved their Big East record to 8-1, the program’s best conference schedule\u00a0start\u00a0since 1989.\u00a0 The sweep was also the Pirates’ fifth sweep of the\u00a0Wildcats\u00a0in six seasons. In the\u00a0three game\u00a0set, the Seton Hall managed to\u00a0outscore Villanova\u00a021-5.<\/p>\n

“That\u2019s what we call \u2018linking up\u2019 our lineup,\u201d coach Rob\u00a0Sheppard said. \u201cIf we\u2019re able to hit one through nine, we\u2019re going to have a lot more success. There\u2019s\u00a0opportunities\u00a0throughout the lineup and it\u2019s good to see guys taking advantage of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The key for Seton Hall so far in-conference has been the team’s stellar pitching. The Pirates have held the opposing team to three runs or less in five of the team’s last six Big East matchups. As a team, the Pirates have a lowly 1.89 ERA through nine conference games.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt starts with the\u00a0starting\u00a0pitching,\u201d Sheppard said. \u201cOur starters have\u00a0done\u00a0a really good job of keeping us in the game and giving\u00a0us quality starts with the guys out of the bullpen being really good. The combination of starting pitching and\u00a0guys coming out\u00a0of\u00a0the bullpen\u00a0have really given us a boost towards our success this early.\u201d<\/p>\n

Looking forward the Pirates will play Saint Peters in a midweek match-up at home before hitting the road to take on the Creighton Blue Jays in Omaha, Neb.<\/p>\n
