A family man, he is motivated by more than watching game footage.\u00a0 Here is the best from our Q&amp;A:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why Seton Hall?<\/strong> \u201cThis is the highest level I could\u2019ve went.\u00a0 I always wanted to go high ever since I was younger.\u00a0 My coach set me up with a workout and that put me where I am now.\u00a0 This team, the environment, and the fans are what makes this something special.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Take me through going from high school star to limited minutes.<\/strong> \u201cVery, very humbling.\u00a0 I\u2019m happy for the experience because I learned patience in the highest sense.\u00a0 Life is about patience.\u00a0 Not everything will come to you when you want it too.\u00a0 You have to wait for your time and when it does come, you have to be ready; seize the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Was D1 always the dream? <\/strong>\u201cYeah, that was the big dream the whole time.\u00a0 That is exactly why I\u2019m here.\u00a0 It got to the point where I never thought I would make it; I just could not get the exposure.\u00a0 I was considering settling, which I never thought I would.\u00a0 Then, my prep school coach was able to schedule me a tryout and I was blessed to make it.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gannett-cdn.com\/-mm-\/ea285734c32dea9220a7624aa247446fc980f3ca\/c=119-0-1970-1392&amp;r=x408&amp;c=540x405\/local\/-\/media\/2017\/12\/01\/NJGroup\/AsburyPark\/636477489888974774-USATSI-10422179.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Seton Hall Pirates guard Shavar Reynolds (21) drives. Murray-USA TODAY Sports)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Tell me about that tryout. <\/strong>\u201cIt was insane.\u00a0 My coach told me on a Thursday and I had just finished an AAU game.\u00a0 As he told me, I finally felt like I had a shot to make it.\u00a0 The day comes, I met my coach, and we make our way to the gym.\u00a0 We walk in and I was blown away.\u00a0 It was a D1 gym and that\u2019s all I had been dreaming about since I was little.\u00a0 The workout began, and I just had one of the better practices of my life; I was hitting shots and felt good about the impression I made on the coaches.\u00a0 By the end, Coach Willard came up to me and told me that I had made the team.\u00a0 Right there, I was just smiling and got to go home and tell my mom.\u00a0 That day was just crazy; still makes me feel blessed to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What has this team taught you so far? <\/strong>\u201cThis is a very good team and group of guys.\u00a0 If you want to talk about a team, these are the group of guys you would use to describe it.\u00a0 We\u2019re all very close, definitely like a family.\u00a0 The experience of the older guys, especially the seniors, goes a long way; they know what they\u2019re talking about and are always able to keep their composure.\u00a0 I\u2019ve never seen a real-game situation where they\u2019ve gotten rattled.\u00a0 As a younger player, you\u2019ll see a 10-0 run and it might impact your demeanor or intensity.\u00a0 To these guys, it\u2019s just another part of the game and they can chip away to win games.\u00a0 I\u2019ve learned so much already from this team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>How much have you grown as a player? <\/strong>\u201cOh, a lot.\u00a0 The levels from high school, to D3 open gyms, to now; it\u2019s a whole different game.\u00a0 When I first got here, I could not finish at the rim.\u00a0 Everyone was just too big; you\u2019ve got Angel and the other guys who tower over some of us.\u00a0 My mindset was to pull up or hit a floater.\u00a0 But, as time went on I got way better.\u00a0 You understand different angles and just see a different style of play.\u00a0 Sometimes you\u2019re going to get hit in the face; it\u2019s just how you take it that counts.\u00a0 The workouts are extremely similar to what I\u2019ve done in my life before college, but it\u2019s just so much more intense and fine-tuned.\u00a0 Everyone is good, everyone is athletic.\u00a0 It\u2019s just another level of basketball.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Where does your motivation come from? <\/strong>\u201cIt\u2019s my whole family; that\u2019s all I have.\u00a0 I\u2019ve moved around my entire life, but they were the one thing that was always stable.\u00a0 Everything I do is for them.\u00a0 If I\u2019m ever blessed enough to make it, my mom isn\u2019t working, my dad\u2019s done, and my sisters are set.\u00a0 Also, my grandparents drive me; my Grandpa and my Grandma, who passed away.\u00a0 It\u2019s up to God and there\u2019s always a reason for His plan.\u00a0 I\u2019m always doing everything I do, for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 540px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gannett-cdn.com\/-mm-\/3b5abb14554f2d0ea1fbf0bfa6472fe342a8d1bc\/c=427-0-3417-2248&amp;r=x408&amp;c=540x405\/local\/-\/media\/2017\/12\/01\/NJGroup\/AsburyPark\/636477544938180524-shavar-reynolds-homecoming.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"540\" height=\"405\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Members of Shavar Reynolds&#8217; family, including his dad (Photo via: Seton Hall Athletics)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Tell me about your Dad. <\/strong>\u201cMan, that\u2019s my best friend.\u00a0 I just got to talk to him the other day, but with the time difference it can be hard.\u00a0 He\u2019s in Romania but I\u2019ll talk to him as much as I can.\u00a0 I am who I am because of him.\u00a0 It makes me think about the person I would be if my Dad didn\u2019t instill the values that he did in me.\u00a0 The person that you and everyone sees on the court, that\u2019s all him.\u00a0 Being a good person, having a strong work ethic, and just working to get better everyday are all things I learned from him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have you thought about life after basketball? <\/strong>\u201cI would love to be able to do something around coaching.\u00a0 I can also see myself working in the physical therapy and athletic training field.\u00a0 For me, I just want to do something that can help and impact people.\u00a0 I think the reason we live is to influence people and impact someone\u2019s life.\u00a0 Being able to do that through my passion of sports would be ideal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you see yourself becoming a leader on this team?
