Sense of the Senate Resolution Regarding University Leadership Transition:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">To the Seton Hall University Board of Trustees, Board of Regents, and President Esteban:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Whereas, \u00a0The University has been well-served by President Esteban and Provost Robinson during their tenures at Seton Hall; and<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Whereas, The Provost Search was put on hold before consultation with the search committee and other faculty could take place; and<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Whereas, The University is in the midst of a search for a permanent Provost and will soon be without a permanent President, such that the University is experiencing a transition of leadership; and<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Whereas, The By-Laws of the University and the Faculty Guide provide for a faculty role in the selection of the President and the Provost; and<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Whereas, Because of this transition in leadership and as part of shared governance, there should also be appropriate consultation with faculty regarding the transition process, including in the appointment of interim leadership;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\"><em>Resolved, <\/em>That the sense of the Seton Hall University Faculty Senate is<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">That the faculty and the Senate ought to participate meaningfully in discussions at the highest level regarding the timing, process, and substance of searches for a new President and a new Provost, as well as interim appointments to those positions; and<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">That, in particular, as one mechanism for this participation, Senate representatives should participate directly in the Board of Regents\u2019 Committee dealing with the transition.<\/p>\n<p>7. Reports of standing and special committees<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">a. Academic Policy Committee <a href=\"http:\/\/scholarship.shu.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1635&amp;context=faculty-senate-agendas\">report<\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">i. The Senate approves the <a href=\"http:\/\/scholarship.shu.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1634&amp;context=faculty-senate-agendas\">certificate in Global Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">b. Compensation &amp; Welfare Committee <a href=\"http:\/\/scholarship.shu.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1639&amp;context=faculty-senate-agendas\">report<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">c. Completion Committee <a href=\"http:\/\/scholarship.shu.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1643&amp;context=faculty-senate-agendas\">report<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">d. SECOND READING of proposed change to Article 7. 5. c.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\"><strong>MOTION<\/strong>: To replace the language of Article 7.5. c with<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">No faculty member with time reassigned (released) from teaching to research or administrative duties <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through\">or administrative duties <\/span>is eligible for teaching overload <\/span>without approval of faculty member, chairperson and dean.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">Currently reads<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">No faculty member may combine time released from teaching load for research or administrative duties, or overtime.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">ii. FIRST READING Proposed change to Article 3.2.a (stopping the tenure clock), deleting a sentence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">Other causes may include delay of mandatory tenure review for one year on the occasion of childbirth for faculty members. Said delay will be granted upon documented application to the appropriate dean, though no affected faculty member is required to request such a delay nor to accept one for which the faculty member has not applied. <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">This shall be a one-time exemption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">Remove phrase in red.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">iii. INTERPRETATION OF ARTICLE 5.5.b<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">Article 5.5.b reads<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\"><em>The applicant has the right to make a personal appearance and presentation to the dean, and to the department, college, and university Rank and Tenure Committees. This right may be waived, but such waiver must be in writing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">The Executive Committee directed the FGBC to determine whether the <a href=\"http:\/\/scholarship.shu.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1640&amp;context=faculty-senate-agendas\">URT bylaws<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/scholarship.shu.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1641&amp;context=faculty-senate-agendas\">interview guidelines<\/a> (see attached) are in accordance with FG 5.5.b<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">The Committee believes that such bylaws and guidelines are consistent with FG 5.5.b.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\"><strong>MOTION:\u00a0 <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/scholarship.shu.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1640&amp;context=faculty-senate-agendas\">The University Rank and Tenure bylaws<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/scholarship.shu.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1641&amp;context=faculty-senate-agendas\">interview guidelines<\/a> are not in violation of Article 5.5.b.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">e.
