If the faculty member so requests, the reason given for the nonrenewal of an appointment shall be confirmed in writing. In cases of denial of an application for tenure, see article 5.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">With<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">In the event of a decision not to renew a probationary appointment, the department will provide evidence to the dean substantiating its recommendation. SHOULD THE DEAN DECIDE TO OVERRULE A DEPARTMENT\u2019S RECOMMENDATION TO RENEW A PROBATIONARY APPOINTMENT, THE DEAN WILL PROVIDE EVIDENCE SUBSTANTIATING THAT DECISION. In the case of a decision not to renew a probationary appointment, the applicant has the right to appeal from the department, and, in the library, from the committee to the dean, and also from the dean to the provost. Establishment and review of a core curriculum for the university (FG 12.2c)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Whereas: The Senate\u2019s University Core Curriculum Committee is charged with making<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">recommendations to the Senate on matters relating to the design, revision, administration, and implementation of the Core Curriculum. (Faculty Senate Bylaw XIX.f)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Whereas: The Core is currently administered by a Director and units outside of the Faculty Guide (Institute for Inter-disciplinary Studies, Core Advisory Board, etc.)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Whereas: A significant proportion of Core 1101 and 2101 sections (59% in S\u201914 \u2013 78% in S\u201916) are staffed by instructors employed outside of the Faculty Guide (Full-time Fellows with no access to shared governance processes, Term faculty and Adjunct professors hired and supervised by non-Chairs)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Be it resolved that: the Senate cooperate with the Provost\u2019s Office to bring the Core into the Faculty Guide.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>8. New Business<\/p>\n<p>a.\u00a0 Motion The faculty senate clearly and emphatically affirms the University\u2019s mission and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and the free exchange of ideas, and the University\u2019s support for the value, safety, and dignity of each member of our community, regardless of ability, race, gender, gender identification, sexual orientation, religious belief, national origin, or political affiliation.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate resolves that the President should issue a strong, public statement explicitly rejecting xenophobia, racism, gender bias, and discrimination in all of its forms.<\/p>\n<p>12.
