If the department and the dean approve, the faculty member shall be offered<\/strong>\u00a0an additional five-year contract.\u00a0<strong>If there is a disagreement between the department and the dean, the faculty member may appeal to the provost for further review of the application.<\/strong>\u00a0This review process shall be continued for each subsequent five-year contract.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">ii.\u00a0<em>Motion<\/em>: Second\u00a0reading of a motion to approve the following amendment to Faculty Guide Article\u00a03.4.j:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">A faculty member may be promoted from the rank of faculty associate to the rank of senior faculty associate as part of any review process mandated above; this process\u00a0<strong>includes the college rank and tenure committee\u2019s review and approval<\/strong>. This change in rank does not involve any change in rights or privileges relative to the faculty associate appointment, but can involve an increase in salary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">iii.\u00a0<em>Motion<\/em>: Second\u00a0reading of a motion to approve the following amendment to Faculty Guide Article\u00a03.4.k:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Because the university does not expect faculty members on faculty associate appointments to participate in traditional scholarly activity, the normal course load for such faculty members shall be\u00a0<del>fifteen (15)<\/del>\u00a0twelve\u00a0<strong>(12) credits\u00a0<\/strong>per semester.\u00a0 However, release time from a portion of this course load may be granted by the dean on recommendation of the department for ongoing application of the faculty member\u2019s professional expertise or for other university purposes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">iv. <em>Motion<\/em>:<em> \u00a0<\/em>Second\u00a0reading of a motion to approve\u00a0the proposed\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/scholarship.shu.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1035&amp;context=faculty-senate-agendas\">Grievance Committee by-laws, as attached<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">v.\u00a0<em>Motion<\/em>: First reading of proposed changes to Article II in the Faculty Guide:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">The current language:<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px\">NONDISCRIMINATION<br \/>\nThe university agrees to continue its policy of not discriminating against any employee of the university, or applicant for employment, because of race, religion, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, age, or physical or mental impairment not directly affecting the ability of a job applicant or employee to meet her or his responsibilities and to carry out his or her duties as specified in this Faculty Guide.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">should be changed to reflect the Non-Discrimination Policy on the University web site, preceded by the language in bold:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\"><strong>Faculty at the university are protected from all forms of discrimination:<\/strong> <em>The University is committed to providing a working and learning environment that is free from discrimination, harassment, retaliation and other unlawful conduct and that assures the fair and equitable treatment of all individuals.
