Faculty Guide and Bylaws Committee <a href=\"http:\/\/scholarship.shu.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1030&amp;context=faculty-senate-agendas\">report<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">i. <em>Motion<\/em>: To approve the following interpretation of the Faculty Guide by the Faculty Guide Committee:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">While Article 11.2a2 specifically lists the college core as falling under the purview of the EPC, Article 12.5a gives colleges and schools the ability to create committees as they see fit to meet needs as they arise. A college or school may find it necessary under this article to create a committee to oversee its general education requirements. Therefore, the College of Arts and Sciences is entitled to create a standing Core Curriculum Committee, based on article 12.5a, but recommends that the language in articles 11.2a2 and 12.5a be revised to clarify the ability of colleges and schools to create committees as needed to govern themselves.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">ii. <em>Motion<\/em>: First reading of a motion to approve the following amendment to Faculty Guide Article\u00a03.4.g.3:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">In the fall semester of the fifth year of a five-year contract for a faculty associate position, the faculty member shall be reviewed <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through\">as in the above<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through\">section <\/span>\u00a0<strong>by the tenured faculty of the department, the dean, and the decision shall be approved by the provost.\u00a0 The applicant must be informed by Dec. 15. of that year. If the department and the dean approve, the faculty member shall be offered<\/strong> an additional five-year contract. <strong>If there is a disagreement between the department and the dean, the faculty member may appeal to the provost for further review of the application.<\/strong> This review process shall be continued for each subsequent five-year contract.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">iii. <em>Motion<\/em>: First reading of a motion to approve the following amendment to Faculty Guide Article\u00a03.4.j:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">A faculty member may be promoted from the rank of faculty associate to the rank of senior faculty associate as part of any review process mandated above; this process <strong>includes the college rank and tenure committee\u2019s review and approval<\/strong>. This change in rank does not involve any change in rights or privileges relative to the faculty associate appointment, but can involve an increase in salary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">iv. <em>Motion<\/em>: First reading of a motion to approve the following amendment to Faculty Guide Article\u00a03.4.k:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">Because the university does not expect faculty members on faculty associate appointments to participate in traditional scholarly activity, the normal course load for such faculty members shall be <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through\">fifteen (15)<\/span> twelve <strong>(12) credits <\/strong>per semester.\u00a0 However, release time from a portion of this course load may be granted by the dean on recommendation of the department for ongoing application of the faculty member&#8217;s professional expertise or for other university purposes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px\">v.\u00a0<em>Motion: \u00a0<\/em>First reading of a motion to approve\u00a0the proposed <a href=\"http:\/\/scholarship.shu.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?article=1035&amp;context=faculty-senate-agendas\">Grievance Committee by-laws, as attached<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">e.
