I am\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">originally from Madagascar and France<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and nearly<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0a year ago, after moving out of Paris, I started the M.A. program offered by the School of Diplomacy<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">I knew\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">such an academic endeavor\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">would\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">be a crucial step in the right direction to help<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0narrow my career path, develop leadership skills, and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">uncover\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">unique professional opportunities.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Among these\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">unique opportunities was\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">a remote internship at the Geneva Center for Security Policy (GCSP)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. GCSP is\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">an international foundation focused on building and maintaining global peace, security and stability<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">. I joined the organization\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">in the midst of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the coronavirus\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">pandemic, assuming the role of Young Leader in Foreign and Security Policy, as part of their prestigious Global Fellowship Initiative (GFI). My\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">graduate school\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">specializations are global negotiation and conflict management, with a regional focus on Africa. Therefore, getting an insider\u2019s view of a Geneva-based institution with 45 affiliated member states, which is recognized as one of the world\u2019s leading centers for executive education, policy analysis and diplomatic dialogue, constitutes a dream internship experience for the political affairs specialist, policy analyst and diplomat that I aspire to be.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">With\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">GCSP\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">I\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">engaged in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\"> research, data collection, and leadership skills for activities surrounding climate change<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">migration,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">international security,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">foresight in Africa, conflict prevention, and the nexus between terrorism and organized crime in all its forms. Alternating between strategic anticipation and terrorism in relation to preventing violent extremism (PVE) essentially determines the work that I am doing with the Center.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">A\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">significant<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0portion of the expertise I<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">appl<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ied<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0to\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">the Center\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">projects related to key security and peace policy issues\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">that I<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0acquired during my first year of graduate school<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">C<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ourses such as Institutions of Post-Conflict Governance, Peacemaking and Peacekeeping, and the Art and Science of Negotiation, as well as\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">various\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">on-campus event<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">organized by the School of Diplomacy, undoubtedly sharpened <\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">my knowledge and analytical thinking on foreign policy and international security.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Given the circumstances, performing remotely and coordinating with my colleagues who are based in Geneva, has caused me to develop more effective reporting methods and rearrange my daily schedule, keeping in mind that time difference is a challenge that has to be overcome in order to meet deadlines and reach individual, collective<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0and global objectives<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">N<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">ot only does this fellowship program provide its participants with executive courses, conferences, seminars, workshops and the chance to participate in regional or issue-specific collaborative designs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0but it also offers exclusive networking connections<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">;<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0notably, GCSP\u2019s experts, executive<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">-in-residence, associate<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">doctoral and government fellows<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0I would highly recommend any student majoring in international relations apply and make the most of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">this fellowship program<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">in<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0the pursuit of a thriving career.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559731&quot;:720,&quot;335559740&quot;:240}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My name is Priscilla\u00a0Haingo\u00a0Plat\u00a0and\u00a0I am a second-year graduate student in\u00a0the School of\u00a0Diplomacy\u00a0&amp; International Relations at Seton Hall University.
