Creative Process

When creating my blog, I wanted a banner that reflects the theme of technology and all that the future holds in store of us in that regard. I speculated featuring popular powerful electronic devices like the MacBook, but concluded that it was too limiting. Technology as far as we know it is fueled by the human mind, and this innovative mind has made significant steps to creating systems that mimics the human brain. This is simply Artificial Intelligence(AI). For this reason, I envisioned an image that depicts raw data funneled into a super-computer(AI) and that processed data fed to our human networks (the internet). The raw data is portrayed as the 1’s and 0’s that enters the computer’s brain, and the networks are the interconnecting threads that flow out from the brain.

With this imagery, I searched for artificial intelligence images on google.com. Filtered my search for ‘Creative Commons License’ and for ‘Large’ images so it is larger than my Blog Header (1920 × 480 pixels). Fascinatingly, I found the perfect image – so I reviewed the image license and ensured it permitted file sharing and modification for non-commercial use. To modify the image, I uploaded it to Pixlr.com which is a great free online tool for image edits. The following were my modifications:

• Cropped image
• Reduced image tint
• Increased image temperature
• Increased image saturation
• Increased image hue
• Increased image vibrance
• Decreased exposure
• Increased contrast
• Increased smooth and blur details
• Increased vignette & bloom
• Added text to image

Thoughts on the Creative Process

I really enjoyed the creative process as it allowed me to explore my pseudo-artistic strengths with full autonomy of design. It was fun modifying the image on pixlr.com and creating a copyright license for the image on the Wikimedia Commons Site. The purpose of this blogging site is to discuss interesting technology related content. I believe artificial intelligence is the future of technology, hence the banner displays an image of artificial intelligence concepts behind the blog-name to portray the theme of the blog.
