The song \u201cLa Vie Boh\u00e8me\u201d, which occurs before the intermission and is one of the most popular scenes from the play, is performed here. The Life Caf\u00e9 was chosen for this particular scene because Jonathan Larson was a frequent of the caf\u00e9. The Life caf\u00e9 webpage reads, \u201cJonathan Larson frequented the East Village and he liked hanging out at Life Cafe, sipping coffee while watching, interviewing and writing <em>Rent<\/em>. He observed the neighborhood people who regularly met at Life Cafe.\u201d Larson liked to hang out in the Life Caf\u00e9. In fact, while Larson was writing <em>Rent<\/em> he would write in the caf\u00e9 at times.<a href=\"#_ftn14\" name=\"_ftnref14\">[14]<\/a> Sadly, however, the Life Caf\u00e9 has closed permanently. While it was open, Jonathan Larson wrote much of the play at the caf\u00e9 and the caf\u00e9 worked to keep his memory alive after he died.
