A Playlist for My Friends

My friends all have very different music tastes and are where I usually find a lot of new music to listen to. I love when I am hanging out with them and hear a new song. I decided to ask a few of my friends five songs that they really like at the moment and use their song choices to make a playlist for this week.

My Playlist:

I’m starting this playlist off with a few songs I really like, because this is my blog and I can do what I want.

Song: 2002

Artist: Anne-Marie

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: This song is really fun and I love the chorus

Song: Lonely Together

Artist: Avicii feat. Rita Ora

Genre: Dance

My Thoughts: I love this song. It is really fun and great to listen to when you are working out. RIP Avicii

Song: Ye vs. the People (starring T.I. as the People)

Artist: Kanye West

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: Kanye West is crazy. My roommate hates him. My favorite thing about him is that he is married to Kim Kardashian. But this song is interesting. I like it.

Song: Living

Artist: Dierks Bentley

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: I like the message of this song.

Song: Money Bag

Artist: Cardi B

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: I love Cardi B. Her whole album is fire and I’m just obsessed with her.

Song: Strawberries & Cigarettes

Artist: Troye Sivan

Genre: Pop/Alternative

My Thoughts: This song has a really cool sound. It sounds like something that would be on the Perks of Being a Wallflower soundtrack.

Steph’s Playlist:

Steph is really indie, alternative, and cool which her playlist really captures. She is also one of the funniest people I know. Luckily she agreed to be interviewed for my blog and the video does not disappoint! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Song: Sky Walker

Artist: Miguel feat. Travis Scott

Genre: R&B

My Thoughts: Miguel has a really calming voice and the song sounds pretty cool, but my favorite part of this song is Travis Scott.

Song: Come a Little Closer

Artist: Cage the Elephant

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I really like Cage the Elephant. My favorite song by them is Cigarette Daydreams, but this is a close second. I love this band’s sound and their lyrics are really good.

Song: Somebody Else

Artist: The 1975

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I love the 1975 so much. This is my favorite song off their most recent album. I was really excited when Steph and I became friends because she likes a lot of the same alternative bands that I do.

Song: Dreaming

Artist: Mac DeMarco

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I’ve never heard of Mac DeMarco until I met Steph and honestly up until three minutes ago I thought his name was Matt. He has a really alternative sound to him so if that is not your thing, this song might not be for you.

Song: Florida Kilos

Artist: Lana Del Rey

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: Lana Del Rey is a queen. Steph and I saw her in January and it was life changing. Lana is one of my favorite artists. She has a cool voice and vibe. I want to listen to this song on repeat.

Lindsay’s Playlist:

This playlist is full of country music and it is perfect, just like Lindsay (ily Big)!!!

Song: Tequlia

Artist: Dan +Shay

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: This is one of my favorite songs ever. Dan +Shay have such a relaxing sound to their voices and this song is just so perfect.

Song: Break Up in the End

Artist: Cole Swindell

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: This song is sad and not one of my favorite Cole Swindell songs, but it is still pretty good.

Song: High Horse

Artist: Kacey Musgraves

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: This song is a MOOD. Kacey Musgraves has a fun pop sound to her music without being Taylor Swift annoying, its nice. Every time I listen to Kacey Msgraves I get really sad that I’m not seeing her on tour with Harry Styles, but that is neither here or there.

Song: In Between

Artist: Kelsea Ballerini

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: Lindsay brought me to see Kelsea Ballerini a couple weeks ago and it was amazing. I love her music and this is one of my favorite songs off her new album. For any girl in their early/mid 20s this song is really relatable.

Song: Something ‘Bout You

Artist: Sir Rosevelt

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: I really like this song. Seeing what country artists look like though sometimes ruins the song. The man on the left in the photo is scaring me.

Danielle’s Playlist:

Danielle is my twin sister, but we are very different. Danielle hates country music and only really listens to pop and alternative, but that works out for me, because she is always listening to really cool songs.

Song: Sweater Weather

Artist: The Neighbourhood

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: This song reminds me of the winter. I really like this song and Danielle introduced me to it when it first came out our freshman year of high school.

Song: Better Now

Artist: Post Malone

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: I love Post Malone. This isn’t my favorite favorite song on his new album but all the songs on the album are my favorite song right now so

Song: Say Amen (Saturday Night)

Artist: Panic! At the Disco

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: Panic! At the Disco peaked with “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out”, but they will always own a piece of my emo heart. I’m really excited for their new album and I really love this song. Danielle probably beats me at being the most emo sister though.

Song: Youngblood

Artist: 5 Seconds of Summer

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: My sister discovered 5 Seconds of Summer before they were slightly popular and on tour with One Direction so go her! I used to really like this song but my suite mate that I don’t like plays this song on repeat every time she takes a shower so now I hate it.

Song: Pray

Artist: Sam Smith feat. Logic

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: I don’t like Sam Smith. I don’t really know why I don’t like him, but it is just a no from me. I really like Logic though. This song is better than the Sam Smith songs that pollute the radio.

Tyler’s Playlist:

If you like rap this is the mini playlist for you.

Song: Power Trip

Artist: J. Cole feat. Miguel

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: I love J. Cole, huge fan, great guy. This is pretty much the most basic J. Cole song, but it is iconic.

Song: Roll in Peace

Artist: Kodak Black feat. XXXTENTACION

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: Okay, so I’m very uncultured when it comes to rap music so I had no clue who Kodak Black was, but I googled him and now I am afraid.

Song: Plain Jane

Artist: A$AP Ferg

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: I like this song a lot. I actually didn’t know the name of this song so shoutout to Tyler because now I know. Thanks pal.

Song: God’s Plan

Artist: Drake

Genre: Rap

Song: Look Alive

Artist: BlocBoy JB feat. Drake

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: Drake is an icon. I hope Canada erects a statue of Drake in the center of Toronto.

Sarah’s Playlist:

Sarah has the most diverse music taste out of all my friends. Her playlists are always amazing and she is the only person I know who loves country music just as much as she loves rap.

Song: Blood Type

Artist: Cautious Clay

Genre: R&B

My Thoughts: “Turn it up and put both headphones in to get the full effect” -Sarah. This song is actually as good as Sarah hyped it up to be. I high key recommend taking Sarah’s advice and listening to this song with both headphones in for the full effect.

Song: lovely

Artist: Billie Eilish & Khalid

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: Shocked and upset I have never heard this song until now. It is really good. I feel like if I would listen to this on a rainy day I would get into my ~feels~

Song: You Are the Reason

Artist: Calum Scott

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: Sarah said this songs makes her cry, so clearly it makes me cry. Its so sweet and sad and cute and perfect and wow there are tears on my computer. Get your tissues ready people!!!

Song: Rearview Town

Artist: Jason Aldean

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: Sarah said this song reminds her of home. I like Jason Aldean and this album is really good.

Sarah’s last recommendation is the entire Post Malone album, beerbongs & bentleys. I second this recommendation. This album has recently been filling all the voids in my life. Huge Post Malone guys.

Marissa’s Playlist

Marissa listens to a lot of really chill and calming music. She also loves classical music, but lucky for us she did not include anything classical on her mini playlist.

Song: IDGAF

Artist: Dua Lipa

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: I love this song so much and I even featured it on one of my songs of the week playlists. It is a total mood and I think it is really fun.

Song: Burning Man

Artist: Andrew Watt feat. Post Malone

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I’ve never heard this song before but anything Post Malone touches is gold.

Song: Arabella

Artist: Arctic Monkeys

Genre: Indie Rock

My Thoughts: I recommend listening to the Arctic Monkeys entire AM album.

Song: Liability

Artist: Lorde

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I hate Lorde, but Marissa finally found a Lorde song that I don’t hate. I like the chorus of this song.

Song: Ain’t No Rest For the Wicked

Artist: Cage the Elephant

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: Not the best Cage the Elephant song, but probably the most popular.

Kyle’s Playlist:

I call Kyle my emo friend, but he claims he is not that emo. He just doesn’t listen to ~mainstream~ music. This is a mini playlist with alternative and rock songs.

Song: Light Up the Sky

Artist: Yellowcard

Genre: Rock

My Thoughts: I ask Kyle to give me song recommendations all the time and this is probably my favorite song he has ever shown me.

Song: Broken

Artist: lovelytheband

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: This song is played on the radio a lot, but that’s okay because it is really good. I like this song, because the lyrics are kinda sad but the background music is super upbeat so the song isn’t depressing and it is actually kind of fun.

Song: Cailin

Artist: Unwritten Law

Genre: Rock

My Thoughts: I was informed that this song was written for one of the band member’s daughter, which is so sweet and cute.

Song: Hands Down

Artist: Dashboard Confessional

Genre: Rock

My Thoughts: This song is featured on my One Tree Hill playlist. This song is really iconic to me, but I would love it even if it wasn’t in One Tree Hill.

Song: Float On

Artist: Modest Mouse

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I saw this song on a “Everything Will Be Okay” playlist and that made me really happy for some reason. I like the message of this song, it does make me feel like everything is going to be okay.

Katy’s Playlist:

Katy and I have pretty much the same music taste which is country music and pop music. I really like her mini playlist and hope you will too!

Song: May We All

Artist: Florida Georgia Line feat. Tim McGraw

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: Florida Georgia Line makes me so happy!! This song reminds me of home and I love it so much.

Song: Unapologetically

Artist: Kelsea Ballerini

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: Kelsea Ballerini has such fun songs! I want to sing this song very loudly in the car.

Song: Renegades

Artist: Thomas Rhett

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: Thomas Rhett is my favorite artist and I really recommend listening to his entire “Life Changes” album. This song is really fun and I love it. My favorite song off of the “Life Changes” album is Leave Right Now.

Song: Perfect

Artist: Ed Sheeran

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: This is basically everyone’s wedding song right now, and for a good reason. This song is so sweet. You can just hear the love in Ed Sheeran’s voice. I’m melting.

Song: This Love

Artist: Maroon 5

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: This song is a total classic. Any old classic Maroon 5 song is amazing and makes me want to sing in the car.

I hope you enjoyed me and my friends’ mini playlists! Let me know what songs you like and what songs you would add to your own mini playlist! Thanks for reading!!

Songs for the Week of February 25th

These are some songs I’ve been listening to recently and wanted to share with you all! Lately I have been listening to a lot of country music and dreaming of warmer weather, but there is a nice mix of all genres. I hope you can find some new music to listen to this week! Leave comments letting me know which songs are your favorites and what songs you have been listening to!

18 songs, 1 hour and 3 minutes

5 Seconds of Summer

Song: Want You Back

Artist: 5 Seconds of Summer

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: I really liked 5 Seconds of Summer a few years ago. For the last year or so it seems as they dropped off the face of the earth. This week they released this song, their first single since 2016. This song is a lot different than their punk pop roots, but it is really good and a great song to restart their career.

Favorite Lyric: “No matter how long you’re gone, I’m always gonna want you back”

Dan + Shay’s cover for their single Tequila

Song: Tequila

Artist: Dan + Shay

Genre: Country/Pop

Why I Picked This Song: I love all of Dan + Shay’s songs. Every song sounds like summer and reminds me of being on a beach. This song is about missing someone yet it still is fun.

Favorite Lyric: “But when I taste tequila, baby I still see ya
Cutting up the floor in a sorority T-Shirt
The same one you wore when we were
Sky high in Colorado, your lips pressed against the bottle
Swearing on a Bible, baby, I’d never leave ya
I remember how bad I need ya, when I taste tequila”

Song: Home In My Mind

Artist: Scotty McCreery

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: I have loved Scotty McCreery since he was on American Idol and he has been releasing new music that is better than anything he has done before. His new album is coming out in March and all of the songs so far have been gold. This song is one of my favorites and it reminds me of being homesick. I like it because it reminds you that you always have a piece of home in the back of your mind that you can look on.

Favorite Lyric: “Sweet tea, porch swings, supper on the stove
Everything I’ve been missing on the road
I can’t be there tonight
But when I close my eyes
I’m going home in my mind”

Song: Wherever You Are

Artist: Scotty McCreery

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: This song is super cute. It is about a long distance relationship and going to wherever the person you love is and it sounds super summer-y.

Favorite Lyric: “Whatever it takes you know I’m with it
And it won’t be long till I’m there by your side
Wherever you are”

Song: IDGAF

Artist: Dua Lipa

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: This song is really fun and it is a total mood.

Favorite Lyric: “I don’t need your love, so you can try all you want
Your time is up”

Song: I Like Me Better

Artist: Lauv

Genre: Pop/Dance

Why I Picked This Song: This song is a lot of fun and always makes me want to dance. It would be a good song to add to a gym playlist or listen to before going out.

Favorite Lyric: “Midnight into morning coffee
Burning through the hours talking”

Song: Getting Over You

Artist: Lauv

Genre: Pop/Dance

Why I Picked This Song: This song gives me Jon Bellion vibes. It has a relaxing sound with a cool beat. When I hear this song it reminds me of driving in a car with your friends with the windows down in a haze.

Favorite Lyric: “the truth is
I could spend my whole life getting over you”

Song: MotorSport

Artist: Migos, Nicki Minaj & Cardi B

Genre: Rap

Why I Picked This Song: I am not the biggest fan of rap music but I really like Migos, Nicki Minaj, and Cardi B, so this song is perfect.

Favorite Lyric: “Bill Belichick
Take the air out the ball, just so I can flex”

Song: You Make It Easy

Artist: Jason Aldean

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: This is a really beautiful song about his wife, and I totally would use it as my first dance song at my wedding one day.

Favorite Lyric: “See forever when I see your face
And I swear God made you for me”

Song: Naked

Artist: James Arthur

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: A lot of people have probably heard James’ song “Say You Won’t Let Go”, but he has even more great songs and this is one of them. This song is really raw and you can feel the emotion in his voice.

Favorite Lyric: “‘Cause here I am
I’m giving all I can
But all you ever do is mess it up”

Song: Wild Love

Artist: James Bay

Genre: Indie Rock

Why I Picked This Song: James Bay is well-known for his song “Let It Go”, but I personally like this song way better. He has a really cool and relaxing voice. This song is really romantic and chill.

Favorite Lyric: “I wanna go where the lights burn low and you’re only mine”

Song: The Middle

Artist: Zedd, Maren Morris, Grey

Genre: Pop/Dance

Why I Picked This Song: This is a song that you are going to be hearing A LOT on the radio. Its fun, upbeat, and all around a jam. It might even end up being the song of the summer.

Favorite Lyric: “I’m unaware
Of just how we got into this mess
Got so aggressive
I know we meant all good intentions”

Song: Void

Artist: The Neighbourhood

Genre: Indie Alternative

Why I Picked This Song: I have liked The Neighbourhood for a pretty long time. Their song “Sweater Weather” was huge in like 2013 but after that they kind of disappeared from the mainstream music scene. This song has a really cool vibe and is a little more of an upbeat song from the band.

Favorite Lyric: “Lately I can’t find a beat
I used to feel the rush
And now I need you to feel the vibe
I need you to see the point”

Song: All The Stars

Artist: Kendrick Lamar, SZA

Genre: Hip-Hop

Why I Picked This Song: This song is from the movie Black Panther, which I have not seen and know nothing about, but I really like this song. Kendrick Lamar and SZA are both really talented and this song really shows that.

Favorite Lyric: “Love, let’s talk about love
Is it anything and everything you hoped for?
Or do the feeling haunt you?”

Song: Home with You

Artist: Madison Beer

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: Madison Beer’s album “As She Pleases” is amazing from the start to the end, but this is my favorite song on the album. The song is really catchy and an a total mood.

Favorite Lyric: “I ain’t got no time for no games
Tell me what you like but it’s never gon’ change
So you do what you want, what you wanna do
And I’m not going home with you, home with you”

Song: Space Cowboy

Artist: Kacey Musgraves

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: When I heard this song I almost stopped in my tracks. It is so raw and real. It makes me really emotional and it is so beautiful. It kind of has a Lana Del Rey feel to it mixed with old Taylor Swift. I haven’t heard a song that has made me feel so many emotions like this one in a long time. This is my absolute favorite song at the moment.

Favorite Lyric: “I know my place, and it ain’t with you
Sunsets fade, and love does too”

Song: Sister Cities

Artist: The Wonder Years

Genre: Punk

Why I Picked This Song: Back in middle and high school I really loved punk music. This song reminds me of all the music I used to listen to back then. It is really angsty and gives me a little bit of nostalgia.

Favorite Lyric: “And I’m guarded like I’m wounded, my first instinct’s always run”

Song: Love Lies

Artist: Khalid & Normani

Genre: R&B/Soul

Why I Picked This Song: I am really late to hop on the Khalid bandwagon, but he has an incredible voice. All of his songs are perfect, but his voice and Normani’s complement each other so well which makes this song stand out to me.

Favorite Lyric: “Waste the day and spend the night
Underneath the sunrise
Show me where your love lies”

Here is a Spotify playlist of all the songs! Happy Listening! xo
