A Playlist for My Friends

My friends all have very different music tastes and are where I usually find a lot of new music to listen to. I love when I am hanging out with them and hear a new song. I decided to ask a few of my friends five songs that they really like at the moment and use their song choices to make a playlist for this week.

My Playlist:

I’m starting this playlist off with a few songs I really like, because this is my blog and I can do what I want.

Song: 2002

Artist: Anne-Marie

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: This song is really fun and I love the chorus

Song: Lonely Together

Artist: Avicii feat. Rita Ora

Genre: Dance

My Thoughts: I love this song. It is really fun and great to listen to when you are working out. RIP Avicii

Song: Ye vs. the People (starring T.I. as the People)

Artist: Kanye West

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: Kanye West is crazy. My roommate hates him. My favorite thing about him is that he is married to Kim Kardashian. But this song is interesting. I like it.

Song: Living

Artist: Dierks Bentley

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: I like the message of this song.

Song: Money Bag

Artist: Cardi B

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: I love Cardi B. Her whole album is fire and I’m just obsessed with her.

Song: Strawberries & Cigarettes

Artist: Troye Sivan

Genre: Pop/Alternative

My Thoughts: This song has a really cool sound. It sounds like something that would be on the Perks of Being a Wallflower soundtrack.

Steph’s Playlist:

Steph is really indie, alternative, and cool which her playlist really captures. She is also one of the funniest people I know. Luckily she agreed to be interviewed for my blog and the video does not disappoint! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Song: Sky Walker

Artist: Miguel feat. Travis Scott

Genre: R&B

My Thoughts: Miguel has a really calming voice and the song sounds pretty cool, but my favorite part of this song is Travis Scott.

Song: Come a Little Closer

Artist: Cage the Elephant

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I really like Cage the Elephant. My favorite song by them is Cigarette Daydreams, but this is a close second. I love this band’s sound and their lyrics are really good.

Song: Somebody Else

Artist: The 1975

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I love the 1975 so much. This is my favorite song off their most recent album. I was really excited when Steph and I became friends because she likes a lot of the same alternative bands that I do.

Song: Dreaming

Artist: Mac DeMarco

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I’ve never heard of Mac DeMarco until I met Steph and honestly up until three minutes ago I thought his name was Matt. He has a really alternative sound to him so if that is not your thing, this song might not be for you.

Song: Florida Kilos

Artist: Lana Del Rey

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: Lana Del Rey is a queen. Steph and I saw her in January and it was life changing. Lana is one of my favorite artists. She has a cool voice and vibe. I want to listen to this song on repeat.

Lindsay’s Playlist:

This playlist is full of country music and it is perfect, just like Lindsay (ily Big)!!!

Song: Tequlia

Artist: Dan +Shay

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: This is one of my favorite songs ever. Dan +Shay have such a relaxing sound to their voices and this song is just so perfect.

Song: Break Up in the End

Artist: Cole Swindell

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: This song is sad and not one of my favorite Cole Swindell songs, but it is still pretty good.

Song: High Horse

Artist: Kacey Musgraves

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: This song is a MOOD. Kacey Musgraves has a fun pop sound to her music without being Taylor Swift annoying, its nice. Every time I listen to Kacey Msgraves I get really sad that I’m not seeing her on tour with Harry Styles, but that is neither here or there.

Song: In Between

Artist: Kelsea Ballerini

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: Lindsay brought me to see Kelsea Ballerini a couple weeks ago and it was amazing. I love her music and this is one of my favorite songs off her new album. For any girl in their early/mid 20s this song is really relatable.

Song: Something ‘Bout You

Artist: Sir Rosevelt

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: I really like this song. Seeing what country artists look like though sometimes ruins the song. The man on the left in the photo is scaring me.

Danielle’s Playlist:

Danielle is my twin sister, but we are very different. Danielle hates country music and only really listens to pop and alternative, but that works out for me, because she is always listening to really cool songs.

Song: Sweater Weather

Artist: The Neighbourhood

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: This song reminds me of the winter. I really like this song and Danielle introduced me to it when it first came out our freshman year of high school.

Song: Better Now

Artist: Post Malone

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: I love Post Malone. This isn’t my favorite favorite song on his new album but all the songs on the album are my favorite song right now so

Song: Say Amen (Saturday Night)

Artist: Panic! At the Disco

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: Panic! At the Disco peaked with “A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out”, but they will always own a piece of my emo heart. I’m really excited for their new album and I really love this song. Danielle probably beats me at being the most emo sister though.

Song: Youngblood

Artist: 5 Seconds of Summer

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: My sister discovered 5 Seconds of Summer before they were slightly popular and on tour with One Direction so go her! I used to really like this song but my suite mate that I don’t like plays this song on repeat every time she takes a shower so now I hate it.

Song: Pray

Artist: Sam Smith feat. Logic

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: I don’t like Sam Smith. I don’t really know why I don’t like him, but it is just a no from me. I really like Logic though. This song is better than the Sam Smith songs that pollute the radio.

Tyler’s Playlist:

If you like rap this is the mini playlist for you.

Song: Power Trip

Artist: J. Cole feat. Miguel

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: I love J. Cole, huge fan, great guy. This is pretty much the most basic J. Cole song, but it is iconic.

Song: Roll in Peace

Artist: Kodak Black feat. XXXTENTACION

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: Okay, so I’m very uncultured when it comes to rap music so I had no clue who Kodak Black was, but I googled him and now I am afraid.

Song: Plain Jane

Artist: A$AP Ferg

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: I like this song a lot. I actually didn’t know the name of this song so shoutout to Tyler because now I know. Thanks pal.

Song: God’s Plan

Artist: Drake

Genre: Rap

Song: Look Alive

Artist: BlocBoy JB feat. Drake

Genre: Rap

My Thoughts: Drake is an icon. I hope Canada erects a statue of Drake in the center of Toronto.

Sarah’s Playlist:

Sarah has the most diverse music taste out of all my friends. Her playlists are always amazing and she is the only person I know who loves country music just as much as she loves rap.

Song: Blood Type

Artist: Cautious Clay

Genre: R&B

My Thoughts: “Turn it up and put both headphones in to get the full effect” -Sarah. This song is actually as good as Sarah hyped it up to be. I high key recommend taking Sarah’s advice and listening to this song with both headphones in for the full effect.

Song: lovely

Artist: Billie Eilish & Khalid

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: Shocked and upset I have never heard this song until now. It is really good. I feel like if I would listen to this on a rainy day I would get into my ~feels~

Song: You Are the Reason

Artist: Calum Scott

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: Sarah said this songs makes her cry, so clearly it makes me cry. Its so sweet and sad and cute and perfect and wow there are tears on my computer. Get your tissues ready people!!!

Song: Rearview Town

Artist: Jason Aldean

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: Sarah said this song reminds her of home. I like Jason Aldean and this album is really good.

Sarah’s last recommendation is the entire Post Malone album, beerbongs & bentleys. I second this recommendation. This album has recently been filling all the voids in my life. Huge Post Malone guys.

Marissa’s Playlist

Marissa listens to a lot of really chill and calming music. She also loves classical music, but lucky for us she did not include anything classical on her mini playlist.

Song: IDGAF

Artist: Dua Lipa

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: I love this song so much and I even featured it on one of my songs of the week playlists. It is a total mood and I think it is really fun.

Song: Burning Man

Artist: Andrew Watt feat. Post Malone

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I’ve never heard this song before but anything Post Malone touches is gold.

Song: Arabella

Artist: Arctic Monkeys

Genre: Indie Rock

My Thoughts: I recommend listening to the Arctic Monkeys entire AM album.

Song: Liability

Artist: Lorde

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I hate Lorde, but Marissa finally found a Lorde song that I don’t hate. I like the chorus of this song.

Song: Ain’t No Rest For the Wicked

Artist: Cage the Elephant

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: Not the best Cage the Elephant song, but probably the most popular.

Kyle’s Playlist:

I call Kyle my emo friend, but he claims he is not that emo. He just doesn’t listen to ~mainstream~ music. This is a mini playlist with alternative and rock songs.

Song: Light Up the Sky

Artist: Yellowcard

Genre: Rock

My Thoughts: I ask Kyle to give me song recommendations all the time and this is probably my favorite song he has ever shown me.

Song: Broken

Artist: lovelytheband

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: This song is played on the radio a lot, but that’s okay because it is really good. I like this song, because the lyrics are kinda sad but the background music is super upbeat so the song isn’t depressing and it is actually kind of fun.

Song: Cailin

Artist: Unwritten Law

Genre: Rock

My Thoughts: I was informed that this song was written for one of the band member’s daughter, which is so sweet and cute.

Song: Hands Down

Artist: Dashboard Confessional

Genre: Rock

My Thoughts: This song is featured on my One Tree Hill playlist. This song is really iconic to me, but I would love it even if it wasn’t in One Tree Hill.

Song: Float On

Artist: Modest Mouse

Genre: Alternative

My Thoughts: I saw this song on a “Everything Will Be Okay” playlist and that made me really happy for some reason. I like the message of this song, it does make me feel like everything is going to be okay.

Katy’s Playlist:

Katy and I have pretty much the same music taste which is country music and pop music. I really like her mini playlist and hope you will too!

Song: May We All

Artist: Florida Georgia Line feat. Tim McGraw

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: Florida Georgia Line makes me so happy!! This song reminds me of home and I love it so much.

Song: Unapologetically

Artist: Kelsea Ballerini

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: Kelsea Ballerini has such fun songs! I want to sing this song very loudly in the car.

Song: Renegades

Artist: Thomas Rhett

Genre: Country

My Thoughts: Thomas Rhett is my favorite artist and I really recommend listening to his entire “Life Changes” album. This song is really fun and I love it. My favorite song off of the “Life Changes” album is Leave Right Now.

Song: Perfect

Artist: Ed Sheeran

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: This is basically everyone’s wedding song right now, and for a good reason. This song is so sweet. You can just hear the love in Ed Sheeran’s voice. I’m melting.

Song: This Love

Artist: Maroon 5

Genre: Pop

My Thoughts: This song is a total classic. Any old classic Maroon 5 song is amazing and makes me want to sing in the car.

I hope you enjoyed me and my friends’ mini playlists! Let me know what songs you like and what songs you would add to your own mini playlist! Thanks for reading!!

Throwback Playlist

I am shocked it took me this long to make a throwback playlist. I was feeling ~inspired~ this weekend by my friend Megan’s “if britney survived 2007…” playlist, which I will link at the end of this post, because it is iconic and I think everyone needs it in their lives. Basically all these songs remind me of middle school which is slightly terrifying and slightly fun. I hope you enjoy taking a trip down memory lane!!

22 songs, 1 hour and 21 minutes

Song: Low

Artist: Flo Rida

Genre: Rap

Why I Picked This Song: When this song plays I am suddenly transported back to my middle school’s gym, dropping it low with my friends. Suddenly I am mortified, we are like 11, why are we dancing like this? Who do we think we are? Why are we all wearing Abercombie & Fitch t-shirts?

Favorite Lyric: Shawty was hot like a toaster

Song: Whatcha Say

Artist: Jason Derulo

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: My roommate said she used to cry to this song in middle school and I thought that was the funniest thing I have ever heard.

Favorite Lyric: Mmh whatcha say (Jason Derulo)

Song: BedRock

Artist: Young Money

Genre: Rap

Why I Picked This Song: If you don’t know all the words to this song I don’t want to be your friend. This song is so iconic. If 11 year old me knew what this song was about she would be shook. But this song is a staple from 2009.

Favorite Lyric: She Michael Jackson bad

Song: Beautiful Soul

Artist: Jesse McCartney

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: I have had the world’s biggest crush on Jesse McCartney since I was in the first grade. I remember the first time I ever slept over my best friend’s house we listened to his version of “I’ll Be” from the Cinderella Story soundtrack all night. He really defines the early 2000’s for me.

Favorite Lyric: I don’t want another pretty face
I don’t want just anyone to hold
I don’t want my love to go to waste
I want you and your beautiful soul

Song: Bottoms Up

Artist: Trey Songz (feat. Nicki Minaj)

Genre: R&B

Why I Picked This Song: I’m pretty sure this song is where my crush on Trey Songz originated from. This song is so fun.

Favorite Lyric: Now bottoms up and double my dosage

Song: 7 Things

Artist: Miley Cyrus

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: This song goes so hard. Fifth grade me was not ready for Miley Cyrus to put Nick Jonas on blast like this. I still like to sing this way to loudly in the car or shower. Miley is a queen.

Favorite Lyric: You’re vain, your games, you’re insecure
You love me, you like her
You make me laugh, you make me cry
I don’t know which side to buy

Song: He Could Be the One

Artist: Hannah Montana

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: Hannah Montana/Miley Ray Stewart and Jake Ryan forever. Hannah Montana defined my childhood. It would be wrong not to let Hannah have a spot on this playlist.

Favorite Lyric: Think I’m really falling for his smile
Get butterflies when he says my name

Song: Mr. Brightside

Artist: The Killers

Genre: Rock

Why I Picked This Song: Mr. Brightside has the ability to turn a room full of strangers into something that feels like a family reunion. This song gets people so hype. It is a forever classic and I think it should be the national anthem.

Favorite Lyric: Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it’s just the price I pay

Song: My Happy Ending

Artist: Avril Lavigne

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: First, I would like to address the Avril Lavigne conspiracy theory, it is true, Avril is dead and was replaced. Look it up. Second, I loved Avril Lavigne when I was younger. For some reason I was really angsty and emo and she appealed to my Hot Topic craze. She had a lot of jams and I was a huge fan. Sk8ter Boi forever.

Favorite Lyric: We were meant to be, supposed to be, but we lost it
And all of the memories, so close to me, just fade away
All this time you were pretending
So much for my happy ending

Song: Burnin’ Up

Artist: Jonas Brothers

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: The Jonas Brothers are iconic. I remember seeing them in concert in 2008 and it was LIFE CHANGING. I am praying for a Jo Bros reunion.

Favorite Lyric: Walk in the room
All I can see is you

Song: When You Look Me in the Eyes

Artist: Jonas Brothers

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: My sister and I got into a fist fight over who gets to use this as their wedding song. This is honestly the most romantic song I have ever heard. I still want to marry Nick Jonas. Shout out to the Jonas Brothers for setting my expectations extremely high since 2007.

Favorite Lyric: When you look me in the eyes
I catch a glimpse of heaven
I find my paradise

Song: Don’t Trust Me

Artist: 3OH!3

Genre: Alternative

Why I Picked This Song: When I think of 2008 I think of this song. It is honestly so iconic that I don’t know how to explain how amazing it is. To this day it is still one of my favorite songs to jam out to in the shower. 3OH!3 has a few other classics but nothing touches this song.

Favorite Lyric: T-tell your boyfriend if he says he’s got beef
That I’m a vegetarian and I ain’t f****** scared of him

Song: Piece of Me

Artist: Britney Spears

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: I would listen to this song on a loop for the rest of my life. Not only is Britney Spears my namesake, but she is an icon. First of all, she is 36 and in better shape than most people my age. Second of all, her 2007 mental breakdown is very understandable and kind of iconic in its own right. I love Britney Spears, put it on my tombstone.

Favorite Lyric: I’m Miss American Dream since I was seventeen

Song: Shake It

Artist: Metro Station

Genre: Alternative

Why I Picked This Song: I have a very vivid memory of listening to this song on the way to my friend’s birthday party at a roller skating rink when I was 9. My roommate has a dance to this song. Everyone remembers this song. Miley Cyrus’ brother is in this band. Amazing.

Favorite Lyric: This feeling’s tearing me up
Here we go now

Song: Best I Ever Had

Artist: Drake

Genre: Rap

Why I Picked This Song: In middle school my sister was obsessed with rap music. We would listen to a lot of Drake and Kanye West. She can probably rap any Drake song from the 2000’s. I have loved Drake since he was wheelchair Jimmy in Degrassi, so I have to show him some love.

Favorite Lyric: Sweatpants, hair tied, chillin’ with no make-up on
That’s when you’re the prettiest, I hope that you don’t take it wrong

Song: She Will Be Loved

Artist: Maroon 5

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: This song is so beautiful and a timeless classic. I’m pretty sure I can listen to it all the time. Big fan of Maroon 5, even bigger fan of this song.

Favorite Lyric: It’s not always rainbows and butterflies
It’s compromise that moves us along

Song: Thnks Fr Th Mmrs

Artist: Fall Out Boy

Genre: Rock

Why I Picked This Song: Fall Out Boy is one of my favorite bands. This is the first song I ever heard by them. It has a special place in my heart and in the early 2000’s.

Favorite Lyric: Thanks for the memories even though they weren’t so great

Song: Your Body Is a Wonderland

Artist: John Mayer

Genre: Rock

Why I Picked This Song: John Mayer is perfect. This song is perfect. What else is there to say? I’m 99 percent sure this is the first John Mayer song I ever heard and it made a fan out of me.

Favorite Lyric: Swim in a deep sea
Of blankets
Take all your big plans
And break ’em

Song: 1985

Artist: Bowling for Soup

Genre: Rock

Why I Picked This Song: One time my roommate tore her meniscus in her knee dancing to this song, that is how good it is.

Favorite Lyric: Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on M-T-V
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she’s uncool
‘Cause she’s still preoccupied
With 19, 19, 1985

Song: All the Small Things

Artist: blink-182

Genre: Rock

Why I Picked This Song: As I stated before, I was very angsty in middle school. I loved pop punk music and a lot of my favorite artists were influenced by blink-182. I think blink-182 is one of the best, most talented, and most influential bands in music. All the Small Things is one of the greatest songs to scream at the top of your lungs.

Favorite Lyric: Say it ain’t so, I will not go
Turn the lights off, carry me home

Song: Airplanes

Artist: B.o.B (feat. Hayley Williams of Paramore)

Genre: Hip/Hop

Why I Picked This Song: Summer 2010 this song was on the radio every other song. It was kind of crazy but I remember listen to it coming home from softball everyday in the seventh grade.

Favorite Lyric: Can we pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shootin’ stars
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now

Song: Photograph

Artist: Nickelback

Genre: Garbage

Why I Picked This Song: My first ever concert was Bon Jovi and their opening act was Nickelback. I have convinced my mother that is why I need therapy. Although Nickelback is kinda garbage and sort of scares me, I feel like I had to add this song for the meme quality it produces.

Favorite Lyric: And this is where I went to school
Most of the time I had better things to do

Instead of including a playlist of the songs above, I am sharing the greatest throwbacks playlist of all time. Many of the songs on my playlist come from this one. I hope you enjoyed your trip down memory lane!!! Please let me know what music you listened to back in the day and feel free to share any embarrassing middle school memories with me!

Songs for the Week of April 16th

Between new music from different artists and the beautiful weather from this past weekend, I spent a lot of time laying outside and listening to music. This playlist is composed of a lot of songs I found myself jamming out to this weekend. Although the warm and sunny weather is gone, i am hoping these songs keep the sunshine in the back of my mind! I hope you enjoy!

24 songs, 1 hour and 23 minutes

Song: Hotel Key

Artist: Old Dominion

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: This song is really fun! When I listen to it I think about being on vacation. I really like Old Dominion because most of their songs leave me thinking about summer.

Favorite Lyric: The tequila was cheap but the flow we were feeling was real

Song: Get Along

Artist: Kenny Chesney

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: Kenny Chesney is one of my all time favorite artists. His music always makes me feel like I’m on a beach in Mexico somewhere. This song is super uplifting and and reminds me not to take life so seriously. I honestly can’t stop listening to this song.

Favorite Lyric: Met a man wearin’ a t-shirt, says “Virginia is for lovers”
Had a Bible in his left hand and a bottle in the other
He says “All you’re really given is the sunshine and your name”
We both started laughin’ when the sky started to rain

Get along, on down the road
We’ve got a long long way to go
Scared to live, scared to die
We ain’t perfect but we try

Get along while we can
Always give love the upper hand

Song: Pushing Up Daisies (Love Alive)

Artist: Brothers Osborne

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: This isn’t really a fun or summer song, but it is sweet and cute and new and I liked it. It is a love song and I love love songs so I wanted to add it. It is on the slower side and super relaxing. Get yourself a love like this y’all.

Favorite Lyric: I’d promise you forever if I could
If I could slow down the hands of time I would
I know they say all good things must end
If I can do it all over well I’ll do it all over
Over and over again

Song: I Do

Artist: Cardi B (feat. SZA)

Genre: Rap

Why I Picked This Song: I am obsessed with Cardi B. Everything about her is entertaining to me. Her album “Invasion of Privacy” is really good and the whole thing is worth a listen, but this is one of my favorite songs off the album. The lyrics are a total mood and Cardi B kills everything she does.

Favorite Lyric: Now I’m a boss, I write my own name on the checks (Cardi)

Song: Closure

Artist: Jack & Jack

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: Honestly I have never heard of Jack & Jack and after googling them I am high key embarrassed to put them on this playlist, but this song is good so whatever. Apparently they got famous from Vine, kind of like Shawn Mendes but not as cool as Shawn Mendes. I feel like 14 year olds probably listen to them.

Favorite Lyric: What’s the point in closure, when it’s already over, over
Yeah, things change, people change
Can’t enjoy the sunshine without a little rain
I see brighter days comin’, I’m just keepin’ faith

Song: Nice For What

Artist: Drake

Genre: Rap

Why I Picked This Song: Ever since Drake put out this song telling girls to stop being nice to boys my skin has become clearer, my crops have flourished, and life has been good. I love Drake, what a great man.

Favorite Lyric: You know dark days, you know hard times
Doin’ overtime for the last month
Saturday, call the girls, get ’em gassed up

Song: Wrong Again

Artist: Scotty McCreery

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: I’d apologize for all the country music, but I’m not actually sorry. Country music and summer go together perfectly. The 80 degree weather Saturday had me and my friends in the mood to drive around with the windows down listening to country music. This song is super summer-y as are most of Scotty McCreery’s songs.

Favorite Lyric: Look at you baby, look at you
Just goes to show what I thought I knew
Moon’s gone but here comes the sunrise
Find myself getting lost in your eyes
Never thought I’d feel something so right

Song: Sundowners

Artist: Jordan Davis

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: This guy has an impressive beard and an impressive voice. This song is fun and makes me think about escaping a crowd with someone you like and driving around with them all night. It is cute and sweet and reminds me of young love that is always just infatuation and probably a bad idea.

Favorite Lyric: And every kiss is burning hot
I can’t let ’em go to waste
Let’s say tonight is all that we got
And I’m ready for the chase

Song: Wasted Times

Artist: The Weeknd

Genre: R&B/Soul

Why I Picked This Song: “My Dear Melancholy,” is one of the best albums I have heard all year. Seriously shout out to Selena Gomez for breaking The Weeknd’s heart. This album has been on repeat since it came out. I love it. This is probably my favorite song from the album (I can’t even really pick a favorite because they are all so good). This song is about how Selena Gomez didn’t even compare to The Weeknd’s other ex Bella Hadid (ouch).

Favorite Lyric: Wasted times I spent with someone else
She wasn’t even half of you
Reminiscin’ how you felt
And even though you put my life through hell
I can’t seem to forget ’bout you, ’bout you
I want you to myself

Song: Advice

Artist: Kehlani

Genre: R&B/Soul

Why I Picked This Song: I saw Demi Lovato in concert a few weeks ago and Kehlani was her opening act. At first I didn’t really like her because I kinda just wanted to see Demi, but this song is such a mood. As soon as a heard it I was like okay I need to download this. Any girl who never takes her own advice when it comes to boys, this is a song for you.

Favorite Lyric:

‘Cause how is the man of my dreams not a man of his words?
And how is the man for me just a man that makes me hurt?
It’s time to take
Take my own advice

Song: Chasing Fire

Artist: Lauv

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: I love Lauv. Every song I’ve heard by him is amazing. This song is fun and makes me feel like dancing.

Favorite Lyric: I wanna hate you cause I still love you
And it’s weighing on my chest
We keep our bodies tied together
To ignore what’s coming next

Song: Look Alive

Artist: BlocBoy JB (feat. Drake)

Genre: Rap

Why I Picked This Song: I love Drake. This song really pumps me up. It is perfect to listen to when you are getting ready to go out or when you’re at the gym.

Favorite Lyric:

And I could let you check the tag now, I’m rocking name brand
I’m only chasing after bags, now I got a game plan
And I’m out here whipping boots
Seven hundred, three high fives look alive, look alive

Song: Somebody Else

Artist: The 1975

Genre: Alternative

Why I Picked This Song: I am getting away from the feel good summer-y songs, but The 1975 has been one of my favorite bands since high school. They are really angsty and alternative but the song is pretty relatable. I am not a huge fan of the album this song is from but most of their music is really great.

Favorite Lyric: I don’t want your body
But I hate to think about you with somebody else
Our love has gone cold
You’re intertwining your soul with somebody else

Song: Dangerous Night

Artist: Thirty Seconds to Mars

Artist: All Time Low

Genre: Alternative

Why I Picked This Song: All Time Low is my favorite band of all time. I’ve probably said that like five times already on this blog. This song kinda like address nostalgia before it even begins. The lyrics talk about remembering the “good times” even though they aren’t even over yet.

Favorite Lyric: Underneath the stars we came alive
And singing to the sky just felt right

Song: Do You Believe Me Now

Song: Somebody’s Been Drinkin’

Artist: Cole Swindell

Why I Picked This Song: I love Cole Swindell. I’ve seen him in concert twice and he is very underrated. He write a lot of country artists most popular songs. He is a super talented songwriter and singer and I really like this new song from him. It is like the opposite of his song “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey”, which is another jam.

My Favorite Music Videos

I decided to share with you all ten of my favorite music videos! I hope you enjoy them! Let me know what videos you liked and leave comments with your favorite music videos! Warning: I apparently like a lot of music videos that make me cry, so if you cry easily like me, get a box of tissues ready.

Song: I Do

Artist: Jessie James Decker

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Video: I think about this music video a lot. I am obsessed with watching wedding videos and I’m obsessed with Jessie James Decker and this music video is her and Eric Decker’s wedding set to a song she wrote from him. It is super sweet and her wedding is a dream. I love that she shared something super personal with her fans. I may have teared up watching this a few times.

Favorite Lyrics: I love you till the end of time
I wanna spend forever with you
I do

Song: Better With You

Artist: Jesse McCartney

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Video: I have been in love with Jesse McCartney since the first grade. He has finally released a new song and it is a jam. The song is super sweet and cute and so is the music video. The video shows how the smallest thing can change your life.

Favorite Lyric: When there was nothing left
You showed me the best
I’m still a mess but you hold on

Song: Marry Me

Artist: Thomas Rhett

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Video: This video makes me cry every time I watch it. It is about a guy and a girl who have been friends forever and she is set to marry someone else and ends up not going through with it because they are in love. Thomas Rhett’s wife Lauren was going to marry someone else until her dad intervened and told Thomas to tell Lauren how he felt about her and I’m pretty sure this is what the song is about. I love how this music video takes you on a journey of the protagonists lives together, because it makes you really have feelings for them and care about their story, even if it is just a three minute song.

Favorite Lyric: And I know her daddy’s been dreading this day
Oh, but he don’t know he ain’t the only one giving her away

Song: Weightless

Artist: All Time Low

Genre: Pop-Punk

Why I Picked This Video: This is a song from All Time Low’s Nothing Personal album and this music video really promotes the “nothing personal” image. The whole music video is basically making fun of band culture and the band making fun of themselves. I personally find the video really funny. And All Time Low is my favorite band so anything they do is a favorite of mine.

Favorite Lyric: Maybe it’s not my weekend, but it’s gonna be my year

Song: You Belong With Me

Artist: Taylor Swift

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Video: This might be one of my favorite music videos ever. For starters this was Taylor Swift’s peak. The video has a really funny plot that I feel like a lot of girls have related to at one point or another. The whole boy next door story line was super cute and Lucas Till was perfect for the role. I really just enjoy this video and it reminds me of middle school so

Favorite Lyric: Dreaming about the day when you wake up
And find that what you’re looking for has been here the whole time

Song: Lovebug

Artist: Jonas Brothers

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Video: I really love how this video has like a 1930’s vibe. I love old things and I think love back in the day was so so cute. I love the Jonas Brothers more than I love most of my family and young Nick Jonas was a total cutie. This video is an A+ in my books.

Favorite Lyric: Now I’m speechless, over the edge
I’m just breathless
I never thought that I’d catch this love bug again
Hopeless, head over heels in the moment
I never thought that I’d get hit by this love bug again

Song: Kids in Love

Artist: Mayday Parade

Genre: Pop-Punk

Why I Picked This Video: I love this song!! The video is really fun and makes me wish I was cool and did reckless things. I described this video to one of my friends as “emo Jersey Shore” because the kids in the video are kinda trashy but I kinda love it.

Favorite Lyric: And we were just kids in love
The summer was full of mistakes we wouldn’t learn from

Song: What I Never Knew I Always Wanted

Artist: Carrie Underwood

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Video: Okay, technically this isn’t really a music video and it is more like a slideshow, but it makes me cry every time I watch it and I love it so much. Between her hot hockey player husband, baby, and dog there is so much cuteness. I love this song and the video and I don’t think I will every stop being emotional about it.

Favorite Lyric: Life has a way of showing you just what you need
And who you were made to be

Song: Tell Me You Love Me

Artist: Demi Lovato

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Video: This video is so dramatic and has a really strong plot line. It is like a six minute little movie and I love it. It also has Jackson Avery from Grey’s Anatomy so that is a huge bonus. This is a beautiful music video for a really good song.

Favorite Lyric: Everything I need
Is standing in front of me
I know that we will be alright

Song: You Should Be Here

Artist: Cole Swindell

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Video: No song makes me cry like this one does. I’ve seen him perform it live in concert and I was an controllable sobbing mess, and I think I scared my roommate. This music video is so heartfelt and open. This song is for Cole’s dad who passed away before getting to see Cole really break out in the country music industry. As if the song is not sad enough by itself, this music video takes you with Cole visiting family to visiting his dad’s grave. I am crying.

Favorite Lyric: They say now you’re in a better place
And I would be too if I could see your face

You should be here, standing with your arm around me here
Cutting up, cracking a cold beer
Saying cheers, hey y’all it’s sure been a good year
It’s one of those moments, that’s got your name written all over it
And you know that if I had just one wish
It’d be that you didn’t have to miss this
You should be here

Songs for the Week of March 11th

Me and my friends over the summer at a country concert

I wanted to share with you all some songs I listened to during spring break. I didn’t go anywhere, so I used my playlist to make me feel like I got to get away somewhere warmer! A lot of these songs are just fun songs that remind me of summer but I also mixed in some new music that was recently released! I hope you find some new songs you like!

16 songs, 53 minutes

Song: Truthfully

Artist: DNCE

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: I was at my friend’s house over spring break and this song came on and I had to ask her what it was. I love this song a lot. Joe Jonas’s voice is giving off strong Camp Rock vibes which brings me back to my childhood. This song is way better than “Cake By the Ocean” and should have a lot more exposure.

Favorite Lyric: “Speakin’ truthfully
I love you more than you love me”

Song: Festival

Artist: RaeLynn

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: This song was created to promote Too Faced’s new festival inspired makeup collection. This song is fun and upbeat. When I listen to it I can imagine myself at a carnival or a beach party dancing and having fun.

Favorite Lyric: “We didn’t care what we looked like
Dripping in sweat and desert vibes”

Song: Take It From Me

Artist: Jordan Davis

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: All of my playlists so far have included songs by Jordan Davis, and it is because his music is fun and reminds me of the summer. He has an album “Home State” coming out soon and I am very excited. This song reminds me fun summer love and it is so cute.

Favorite Lyric: “Take it from me if you want a t-shirt to sleep in
It’s my favorite but you can keep it
Looks good baby you should leave it
Hanging off your shoulders
Now give them bare feet dancing down the hallway
Smiling at me running your finger down the wall”

Song: Singles You Up

Artist: Jordan Davis

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: This is about a guy waiting for a girl who has a boyfriend, but instead of being a downer like most songs with this theme, this song is really upbeat and fun. I can imagine myself listening to this song on the beach. Country music has a very summer-y quality about it, and Jordan Davis is really good at giving off a summer-y sunshine-y vibe.

Favorite Lyric: “‘Cause girl, it’s just a matter of time until you find
That the right guy’s staring you back into your eyes, right now”

Song: This Is It

Artist: Scotty McCreery

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: Scotty wrote this song that describes how he proposed to his girlfriend and it is so cute. I am obsessed with engagements and weddings so I really like how this song really explains their story. It is super sentimental and I want to cry when I listen to it. It is so beautiful. I high key recommend listening to this song if you love love or have a heart in general.

Favorite Lyric: “This is it, this is now, this is what I’ve been talking about
Looking out, can’t you see forever?
Take my hand, just take it in
This is a moment we won’t forget
On top of the world, here, together”

Song: Colors

Artist: Jason Derulo

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: This is the song for the 2018 World Cup. Like all the other World Cup songs this song is very up beat and fun. It doesn’t come anywhere near the perfection that was “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)” by Shakira but it is a fun song and makes me excited for the World Cup this summer.

Favorite Lyric: “There’s beauty in our unity we’ve found”

Song: Rockstars

Artist: Kane Brown

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: I was in Marshall’s the other day and this song was on. I liked how it sounded so I looked it up. This song reminds me of high school and driving around with my friends on a cool summer night with the windows down and singing to the songs on the radio. This song just reminds me of a lot of memories I really love.

Favorite Lyric: “Nothin’ like freedom two windows down you singin’ along still hear it now”

Song: I Don’t Think About You

Artist: Kelly Clarkson

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: My mom and I were watching the Voice over spring break and I thought Kelly Clarkson was so funny and cool, so I started to listen to some of her music. I really like this song, it is new and way better than her single “Love So Soft”, which I personally don’t like. Also this song is a pretty big mood.

Favorite Lyric: “I feel freedom where I stand now
And I feel proud from who I am now”

Song: Porsche

Artist: Charli XCX feat. MO

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: This song has a cool sound to it. I really like Charli XCX, she has a lot of good songs, but not a lot of people listen to her music that isn’t played on the radio.

Favorite Lyric: “You won’t hear my teardrops when they’re falling
Engine drowning out the sound, you hear me comin’
Went and got it all, just to prove you wrong
Yeah, you spent my love”

Song: Everyday

Artist: Logic & Marshmello

Genre: Rap

Why I Picked This Song: Logic’s Bobby Tarantino II mixtape is amazing. If I could include every song on this playlist I would, but I am only including 2. I really like this one because it mixes Logic’s rap and singing which I really like. He is really talented. This song is also really good for working out.

Favorite Lyric: “So we gon’ f**k around and vibe, and vibe, and vibe, and vibe”

Song: 44 More

Artist: Logic

Genre: Rap

Why I Picked This Song: This is my favorite song off of Bobby Tarantino II.

Favorite Lyric: “Step in the spot, now they know the name
Sold more albums my first week than Harry Styles and Katy Perry
If that ain’t a sign of the times then I don’t know what is”

Song: Permanent

Artist: Jake Miller

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: I’ve been listening to Jake Miller since 2012 when he was a “rapper” on YouTube. He has come a long way and has mostly ditched his rap career. He just released a new album on Friday and it has a few great songs on it. I really like this song because he has a lot of emotion in his voice and it is a kind of song a lot of people can connect with.

Favorite Lyrics: “Tell me the truth
Do we have a chance
Or are we through”

Song: Drinkin About You

Artist: Jake Miller

Genre: Pop

Why I Picked This Song: It is clear by most songs on his new album he recently had his heartbroken and he is so not over it. This song deals with a similar theme to “Permanent”, but it is another great song off the album. It reminds me of when you first break up with someone and you over analyze everything that happened, trying to figure out what went wrong.

Favorite Lyric: “So many words that I wish I’d said
Is it too late for them now?
I’ve tried to move on but I can’t forget
I still see your face in the crowd”

Song: I’d Be Jealous Too

Artist: Dustin Lynch

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: This is a really fun song about a guy bragging about how awesome his girlfriend is. Whenever I hear this song I want to dance. It is a real feel good song and I can picture myself jamming out to it on my way to the beach.

Favorite Lyric: “She’s a California red in a dive bar
Hourglass body like a guitar
That forever wild smile appears like a
Glitter bomb in the atmosphere
Eyes locked on her like a movie
Like they ain’t ever seen a pair of blue jeans
Can’t blame ’em if they want her like I do”

Song: Party Song

Artist: Dustin Lynch

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: This is 110 percent a summer song. It is really fun, as the title would suggest. It reminds me of sneaking out of the house during the summer to meet up with your friends and having a good time. Songs like these always make me smile and make me feel as happy and carefree as I did when I was young and dumb.

Favorite Lyric: “Say you’re sneaking out your bedroom window, here we go!
You’re a dixie full of JD, dancing in the Casey’s
In your tight tee, yeah
Baby, if you were a CD, I’d put you in my boombox, leave it on repeat-peat”

Song: Lose a Little Sleep

Artist: Ryan Follese

Genre: Country

Why I Picked This Song: Would you believe me if I told you this guy was the lead singer of Hot Chelle Rae, the pop rock band that was really popular in like 2011 for their single “Tonight Tonight”? Well, it is. This year Ryan switched over to a solo country career and I have to say he is killing it. His self titled album is really good. I really love this song because it is really cute and I love love songs.

Favorite Lyric: “I keep laying awake, thinking of you
Stealing a kiss, playing it cool
You got me wired
I’m on fire
You got me calling you up
Picking you up at 2 am
Needing your touch
All I ever wanna do
Is lose a little sleep with you”

Hope you find some new songs to listen to this week!

Why I Picked This Song: I love Taylor Swift’s Red album and I love love love this song. It is so beautifully written and it is actually a really good song to listen to if you want to study or relax because it isn’t as upbeat as some of her other songs. When she sings “You call me up again just to break me like a promise”, I felt that.
