Clicking on this image will take you to the Poverty Risk Calculator by ConfrontingPoverty.org that will determine your risk for falling into poverty.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The general public <strong>encounters homelessness<\/strong> in two ways: through meeting homeless individuals in their <strong>community<\/strong> and through the coverage of homelessness in <strong>mass media.<\/strong> Because of this, one way people might respond when confronted with homelessness is the <strong>association of violence, the consumption of illicit drugs or alcohol<\/strong>, among other assumptions.<\/p>\n<p>To <strong>break these stigmas<\/strong>, homelessness should be viewed as a <em><strong>circumstance<\/strong><\/em>, rather than an <em><strong>identity<\/strong><\/em>. Titles such as Brother, Teacher, or Artist are part of our everyday identities, and putting those identities first helps to break the stigma of homelessness and <strong>create space<\/strong> for homeless individuals to meet their basic needs.<\/p>\n<p>By clicking on the calculator in the image, you can find out what your risk of falling into poverty is. Through their public program <strong>Artspace<\/strong>, Homefront NJ offers displaced artists a space to create, breathe, and see themselves in a new light.<\/p>\n<p>Homefront <strong>artists<\/strong> created the images below, and have exhibited them in galleries all over the state of New Jersey. You can <strong>support<\/strong> these artists and Homefront by purchasing a set of postcards with these images, or by donating to the organization.
