{"id":2948,"date":"2020-02-12T11:54:41","date_gmt":"2020-02-12T16:54:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/libraries\/?p=2948"},"modified":"2020-02-12T11:54:41","modified_gmt":"2020-02-12T16:54:41","slug":"apa-7th-edition-whats-new","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/libraries\/2020\/02\/apa-7th-edition-whats-new\/","title":{"rendered":"APA 7th Edition: What\u2019s new?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>APA 7th Edition: What\u2019s new?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2949 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/libraries\/files\/2020\/02\/APA7.jpg\" alt=\"7th Edition APA Publication Manual\" width=\"200\" height=\"286\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><small>By <a href=\"mailto:kyle.downey@shu.edu\">Kyle Downey<\/a>, Health Sciences Librarian<\/small><\/p>\n<p>Back in October 2019 the American Psychological Association (APA) released the 7<sup>th<\/sup> edition of their APA <em>Publication Manual<\/em>.\u00a0 It has been nearly a decade since the 6<sup>th<\/sup> edition was released and with this newest edition we see several additions and revisions.<\/p>\n<p>So, what is new?<\/p>\n<p>Some changes to the new publication will be immediately noticeable to the user who has used the previous 6<sup>th<\/sup> edition.\u00a0 First, the new manual is in full color throughout the entire publication.\u00a0 Some other changes include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Citing of online material, with a focus on social media<\/li>\n<li>Inclusion of bias-free language<\/li>\n<li>Guidelines on writing without bias that addresses age, disability, gender, race and ethnicity, including the singular use of \u201cthey\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Using shortened URLs and shortDOIs if a URL or DOI is long and complex<\/li>\n<li>Removal of publisher locations for books and book chapters<\/li>\n<li>An in-text citation with 3 or more authors is to be shortened to include only the first authors name and \u201cet al\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Website URLs no longer need to be preceded with \u201cRetrieved from\u201d unless there is also a retrieval date<\/li>\n<li>A single space after any body-text punctuation rather than 2 spaces<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To learn more about the new publication manual, check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/apastyle.apa.org\/blog\">APA style blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Both the Walsh Library and the IHS Library also have permanent reference copies available for faculty and students to use.<\/p>\n<p>Source:\u00a0Elias, Daniel. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mybib.com\/blog\/apa-style-7th-edition-changes\">APA Style 7th Edition: What\u2019s Changed?<\/a>\u201d\u00a0<em>MyBib<\/em>, MyBib, 14 Sept. 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>APA 7th Edition: What\u2019s new?
