The celebration of Jan Van Eyck and the Ghent Altarpiece was noted in previous blog posts <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/lawrencefrizzell\/the-genius-of-jan-van-eyck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/lawrencefrizzell\/the-ghent-altarpiece\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. The terrible threat of the corona virus has cast a dismal shadow over so many lives, and we pray for all the families who have lost loved ones.<\/p>\n<p><em>The New York Times<\/em> published the essay by Sophie Haigney, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/05\/06\/arts\/design\/van-eyck-ghent-cancellation-virus.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cWhen the Virus Came, Some Museum Curators Lost Years of Work,\u201d<\/a> and <em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em> drew attention to the marvels of technology whereby \u201cvideos and documentaries offer an enlightened alternative.\u201d\u00a0 In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-staying-inside-guide-opening-windows-onto-closed-exhibitions-11590529277\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cThe Staying Inside Guide: Opening Windows Onto Closed Exhibitions,\u201d<\/a> Lance Esplund draws attention to the following exhibits that may be of interest:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/artmuseum.princeton.edu\/art\/exhibitions\/3447\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cC\u00e9zanne: The Rock and Quarry Paintings,\u201d<\/a> Princeton University Art Museum, Princeton, N.J.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.artic.edu\/exhibitions\/2939\/el-greco-ambition-and-defiance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cEl Greco: Ambition and Defiance,\u201d<\/a> Art Institute of Chicago, with an introductory film available on YouTube <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Dzcx-ST2ZFU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.
