That would impress people celebrating \u201cGreat Minds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Sister Norma&#8217;s approach was anecdotal, describing the great effectiveness achieved when the <em>heart<\/em> is touched. Then the attitude of people \u201cjust doing their job\u201d may be lifted to recognize the innate humanity of those depicted from afar as invasive hordes. Could Sister Norma be permitted to visit the children herded into prison cells?\u00a0 She asked to go into a cell to <em>pray<\/em> with the children. This simple act had the potential for the guards to see these children from a different angle. Did they recall the parable of the \u201cleast of my brothers and sisters\u201d (Matthew 25:31-46)?<\/p>\n<p>The opening prayer by Msgr. Anthony Ziccardi, Vice President for Mission and Ministry, places the challenge of our time in the proper prospective:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">Almighty God,<br \/>\nlong ago you commanded Abraham, our father in faith, to leave his homeland<br \/>\nand promised him and his descendants a new country.<br \/>\nYou accompanied your elected people\u2019s patriarchs in their migrations<br \/>\nand protected them in their wanderings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px\">You provided for them on their journeys<br \/>\nand in their long sojourn in a foreign land.<br \/>\nBut suffering bitter oppression, they called out to you,<br \/>\nand you led them out of slavery with mighty hand and outstretched arm.<br \/>\nYou settled them in the land of your promise<br \/>\nand commanded them both to fidelity and to welcome:<br \/>\nthey were to remain true to their unity and identity as your people,<br \/>\nbut they were are also to welcome the immigrant and the sojourner among them,<br \/>\nfor thereby they would become a reflection of you in the world,<br \/>\nas Moses explained: \u201cThe Lord your God loves the alien,<br \/>\ngiving him food and clothing.
