Preliminary Evaluation

Cybersecurity in Worldwide Politics
With the world becoming more focused on the digital age of transformation, cybersecurity has become a prominent issue in not only the United States but also the rest of the world. Recently, there has been a cyberattack in the Ukraine, potentially coming from Moscow Russia. Through this incident, there were many systems at the various government agencies affected, particularly through their Microsoft systems. Due to this event being described as a “hybrid war”, other parts of Europe began concerned about their online privacy and security. Poland is now raising their cybersecurity threat levels
Cybersecurity in U.S. Politics
The Pentagon announced in November a new “strategic direction” for its Cyber Maturity Model Certification, calling it CMMC 2.0 and essentially admitting the first iteration was overly complex and costly. The new version better aligns to existing federal standards and requirements but falls well short of being the “bold change” President Biden called for in his much-touted May cybersecurity executive order. Additionally, a K-12 Cybersecurity Act was signed into law by President Biden. Concern has been growing for the last year regarding Biden’s national security policies. Many people have been worrying about Biden’s stance as the security and political conflict over Russia and Ukraine escalates, as they feel the administration is leaving some of the top cybersecurity issues on the backburner. How will this begin to affect the different industries (such as water) and their rules on privacy and security? Will the lack of knowledge regarding cyber-attacks and cyber warfare in the White House and in other areas of power lead some to believe it is not an important issue? It looks like this might be happening right now, but how long do we allow this to go on before other countries diminish sectors of our society?
Disruption & Cybersecurity
An article by Forbes details how the era of disruption is coming too quickly, while cybersecurity is moving too slow to handle the boom of disruption. These are some of the examples the article gave:

The article explains how there is a great issue surrounding the lack of individuals in the cybersecurity industry needed for the number of problems that are arising. Companies are starting to recognize the need to have security experts working in-house and are more willing to pay them well.
Education and Cybersecurity
Just recently, the well-known company Cengage just paid $191 million in order to buy a cybersecurity training firm. How will this greater impact education in the future? How will schools begin to implement change under these domains?
