The Diplomacy Cable<\/strong><\/p>\n

With the invention of the telegraph cables in the 19th<\/sup> century, international consulates and embassies began sending shorter encrypted telegrams, using Morse Code. While the messages are now sent electronically, the moniker \u201ccable\u201d stuck and the term is still in use today for shorter, encrypted diplomatic messages. <\/em><\/p>\n

Canada\u2019s Response to Trump \u2013 Refugees Welcome<\/strong><\/p>\n

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada welcomes refugees who have been rejected from the US, in response to President Donald Trump\u2019s immigration ban. According to the Independent<\/a>, Prime Minister Trudeau intends to discuss Canada\u2019s successful refugee and immigration policy with Mr. Trump.<\/p>\n

UN Condemns Settlement Plans in West Bank <\/strong><\/p>\n

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in response to housing needs that Israel plans to build 2,500 more homes in the West Bank. The United Nations (UN) has condemned Israel\u2019s plan. This is the second announcement made by Israel since Donald Trump took office, reports BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s Immigration Order <\/strong><\/p>\n

The current U.S. Attorney General Sally Yates has told the justice department not to defend President Trump\u2019s immigration order. According to BBC<\/a>, hundreds of US diplomats have drafted a \u201cdissent cable\u201d. Protests have sparked in the US and abroad as the order bans nationals from seven Muslim-majority countries.<\/p>\n

President Duterte Orders Police \u2018Cleanse\u2019 <\/strong><\/p>\n

After the alleged brutal killing of a South Korean businessman, President Duterte calls for a total overhaul of the Philippine National Police. According to CNN<\/a>, the man was supposedly murdered by rogue cops. Duterte has apologize to South Korea, and has taken actions to dissolve anti-drug units with the police force.<\/p>\n

Dutch Respond to Trump<\/strong><\/p>\n

After Donald Trump\u2019s announcement to bring back a Reagan-era policy known as the \u201cglobal gag rule,\u201d the Netherlands has created a plan to set up an international safe abortion fund. Twenty countries have already indicated their support for the plan, and Dutch international development minister Lilianne Ploumen said the aim is to support existing programs run by international organizations, reports The Guardian<\/a>.<\/p>\n
