Restricted: \u00a0NO RESTRICTIONS<\/p>\n<p>CFDA#:<\/p>\n<p>OBJECTIVES: \u00a0Researchers are required to be affiliated with a local institution of higher education in mainland China during their grant term. The local host institution should have the capacity and official permission to host foreign students and scholars. Applicants proposing projects on modern China may spend one month of a six to eight month grant or up to three months of a nine to 10 month grant at research facilities in Hong Kong or Taiwan. Applicants with projects on pre-modern China may spend comparable amounts of time in Taiwan.<br \/>\nApplicants who wish to work at a Hong Kong research center should contact those centers directly for assistance in setting up their visit. Applicants who wish to spend part of their grant period in Taiwan should arrange an affiliation with a Taiwan institution and secure a letter of invitation. An annual conference is held for all researchers in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong during the spring semester. \u00a0Projects may focus on either modern or pre-modern China. \u00a0Applications are sought in all appropriate disciplines, but applications in the following disciplines are preferred: Anthropology, Archaeology, Architecture, Area Studies, Art History, Economics, Film Studies, Geography, History (non-U.S.), Language and Literature (non-US), Linguistics, Philosophy, Political Science, Public Administration, Public\/Global Health, Religious Studies, Sociology, and Urban Planning.<\/p>\n<p>ELIGIBILITY<br \/>\nApplicants must meet all of the following requirements unless specific exemptions are stated in individual country or award descriptions. \u00a0Applicants must be U.S. citizens at the time of application. \u00a0Permanent resident status is not sufficient. \u00a0Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent professional\/terminal degree (including a master&#8217;s depending on the field) as appropriate at the time of application. For professionals and artists outside academe, applicants must demonstrate recognized professional standing and substantial professional accomplishments. \u00a0A candidate who has resided abroad for five or more consecutive years in a six-year year period preceding the date of application is ineligible for a grant. For the purpose of this section, a candidate who has lived outside the United States for nine months or more during a calendar year is deemed to have resided abroad for that year. \u00a0Recipients of a core Fulbright Senior Scholar award (defined as longer than two months) are eligible to receive another traditional award five years after the date of completion of the previous award.<\/p>\n<p>FUNDING<br \/>\nFor 2012-13, a $2,000-$4,400 monthly base stipend was provided, based on the following criteria: Research -only grants: All scholars:<br \/>\n$2,000 per month; Teaching or Teaching\/Research grants: Assistant Professor or professional equivalent: $2,640 per month; Associate or Full Professor or professional equivalent: $2,860 per month; and Distinguished Professor: $4,400 per month. \u00a0For 2012-13:<br \/>\n$2,500-$2,900 per month was provided for subsistence, based on the number of accompanying dependents, up to 2 accompanying dependents;<br \/>\n$1500 per month was provided for housing for research grants, housing was provided by the host institution for Teaching and Teaching\/Research grants; a travel allowance of $2,750 to $8,250 was provided for roundtrip travel from the U.S. to China, with $2,750 for one dependent, and $5,500 for up to two dependents. There is a Book Allowance of $1,500 for lecturers in humanities for Teaching and Teaching\/Research grants only. \u00a0For research grants only, there is a Research Allowance of up to $1,500 for grants of 7 months or less and up to $2,000 for grants longer than 7 months, for incidental expenses related to the project. The Dependent Tuition Allowance is up to<br \/>\n$7,500 per child per semester for accompanying dependents in grades 1-12, upon submission of receipts, with a maximum of $30,000 per family for a 10-month grant. Reimbursement is based on actual cost of tuition and fees only. Any affiliation fees charged by host institutions will be covered up to $2,500 for grants of 5 months or less and $5,000 for grants of 6-10 months.
