Town Hall<\/p>\n<p>November 17, 2017<\/p>\n<p>Facilitator: Mark McGuire<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Diplomacy Senators Abel and Vallejo<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Discussed online submission of student concerns<\/li>\n<li>Described campaign promises made and kept, including attending DULCE meetings<\/li>\n<li>Put forth opportunity for students to \u201cDM\u201d concerns to joint Instagram account<\/li>\n<li>Spoke on efforts to address concerns regarding scheduling conflicts between language courses and diplomacy courses<\/li>\n<li>Meeting scheduled with the deans of Arts and Sciences, Diplomacy and Stillman Schools to address conflicts of schedule<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dean Smith<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Addressed concern about requirements needed for modern language major<\/li>\n<li>Implored students to double check with diplomacy advisors and language department to ensure compliance with requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Eva Rian<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Offers the idea of having mandatory SGA training for senators to ensure they can direct students to proper resources<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Noelle Sorich<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students can access their class\u2019 particular catalogue through U-Life documents using Blackboard to check requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Caroline Hall<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Would it be possible to feature diplomacy related organizations at open house and orientation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mark McGuire<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Liaison Initiative Ambassadors would be good fit to represent organizations at open house and orientation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Senator Abel<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Board of Regents member spoke with him and Mark M. about why more people do not attend big university events<\/li>\n<li>Takes informal poll of those present addressing what the best method of communication is to get information to students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dean Smith<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Asks Mark if he can gauge diplomacy students\u2019 opinions regarding most effective means of communication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mark McGuire<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Agrees to conduct a survey of students regarding their preferred means of communication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>General Comments on Communication<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Communicate information across schools through SGA<\/li>\n<li>Peer Advisors to promote events ( Senator Vallejo )<\/li>\n<li>DULCE \u2013 has role in promoting diplo events<\/li>\n<li>Flyers<\/li>\n<li>RSVPs are important and need to be taken seriously in professional environments<\/li>\n<li>No show RSVPs are unacceptable and unprofessional and hurt everyone<\/li>\n<li>Remind 101 may be effective system<\/li>\n<li>Possible extra credit opportunities could be offered as incentive<\/li>\n<li>Food or point system with reward i.e. dinner with dean as incentive to participate<\/li>\n<li>Point System \u2013 Diplomacy equivalent of SHIPS for athletics<\/li>\n<li>HW for DULCE members \u2013 what incentives promote attendance for the \u201cright reasons\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Honor Society \u2013 Sigma Iota Rho<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Suggestion to make attendance at a certain number of diplomacy events mandatory requirement<\/li>\n<li>Suggestion to make mentoring a mandatory requirement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mark McGuire<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>UDSA may be better suited to mentor undergraduate students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Patricia Graca<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Invited all to Friendsgiving at Graduate Diplomacy House from 5:00 \u2013 10:00 on 11\/19<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mark McGuire<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thanks Senator Abel, Senator Vallejo, and Dean Smith for participation in town hall<\/li>\n<li>Updated students on joint efforts with Mr. Honwana to host UN DPA officials<\/li>\n<li>Shared results of DPA interest poll\n<ul>\n<li>1<sup>st<\/sup> place \u2013 Peacebuilding<\/li>\n<li>2<sup>nd<\/sup> place \u2013 Peacekeeping<\/li>\n<li>3<sup>rd<\/sup> place \u2013 African election monitoring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>DULCE \u2013 GDC effort to host cocktail night with alumni as career and networking event<\/li>\n<li>Promotes Kosovo Ambassador and UN General Assembly President events on 11\/29 and 12\/1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Diplomacy United Leadership and Communication Exchange (DULCE) &#8211;
