She earned her BA from Boston University (1990); her master&#8217;s degree (1997) and PhD (2003) were conferred by Northwestern University.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Capone Singleton has held clinical positions at the Children&#8217;s Seashore House- The Children&#8217;s Hospital of Philadelphia (Philadelphia), Children&#8217;s Memorial Hospital (Chicago), Bright Futures Early Intervention Clinic (Evanston, Illinois), and the Westchester Institute for Human Development (Valhalla, New York).\u00a0 She has provided community outreach services in the areas of infant, toddler and preschool communication and feeding and worked in private practice settings. Dr. Capone Singleton has extensive experience in the area of pediatric dysphagia and early speech-language disorders. She holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech- Language- Hearing Association and maintains her professional licenses. She is certified by the Hanen Center in More Than Words and It Takes Two To Talk programs, and is PROMPT trained.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Capone Singleton is the director of the Developmental Language and Cognition Lab, and The Feeding Project, both at Seton Hall University. In her research, she is interested in (1) how children&#8217;s word learning evolves over time, (2) the relationship between learning the word form versus word meaning, and (3) using the gestural modality as a window onto what children know about the words they are learning.<\/p>\n<p>Our most recent studies examine what is important to children about object learning &#8211; shape shape shape! deepens their word learning; and our second study is helping us broaden our cultural lens onto gesture development of Mandarin preschoolers.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Capone Singleton&#8217;s work is published in the\u00a0<em>Journal of Child Language,\u00a0<\/em>the\u00a0<em>Journal\u00a0of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research,\u00a0<\/em>the\u00a0<em>American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology, <\/em>and the journal\u00a0 <em>Language, Speech, and Hearing Services in the Schools.<\/em> She also served as associate editor of the <em>Journal of Communication Disorders<\/em>,\u00a0 <em>Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research (2010-2013; and Folia Phoniatrica et Logopaedica)<\/em><em>.\u00a0 <\/em>She has presented at both national and international conferences. Dr. Capone Singleton is co-author of the text Language Development: Foundations, Processes, and Clinical Applications (Third Edition).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>LAB MEMBERS PAST AND PRESENT<\/p>\n<p>The lab has terrific contributions from many current members and alumni!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">WHO JOINS THE LAB:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The Lab is humming with a variety of research assistants at any one time. We accept undergraduate research students from the Seton Hall University community or UGs visiting from other institutions. We also have Graduate students (MS-level) who are research assistants assigned by the department or completing their research thesis\/project under my mentoring.
