Pope Francis and Literature, a lecture by Father Antonio Spadaro

The Department of Catholic Studies and the G. K. Chesterton Institute for Faith and Culture proudly present “Bergoglio’s (Reading) List: The Importance of Literature in Pope Francis’ Pastoral and Political Vision.” This event will take place on Wednesday, April 12 at 2 p.m. in the Beck Rooms (ground floor of Walsh Library). Join us for this lecture by our distinguished guest-speaker Father Antonio Spadaro, S.J.

This year’s Archbishop John J. Myers Lecture Series on Law, Society & Faith will elucidate how Pope Francis’ love of reading and literature underpins his work as a pastor and understanding of the world.

A Catholic Breathing with Two Lungs

Thursday, March 30, at 2:30 p.m. in Bethany Hall A.

“Blessed Miriam Teresa Demjanovich – A Catholic Breathing with Two Lungs” will explore some of the hidden aspects of the life of this blessed Eastern Catholic woman.

Blessed Miriam Teresa Demjanovich was born in Bayonne, celebrating her baptism, Holy Communion, and confirmation at Saint John the Baptist Byzantine Ruthenian Catholic Church. She attended Saint Elizabeth University and graduated there before entering the Convent, professing solemnly in the oldest order of Roman Catholic nuns in the U.S. She serves as an example of living the Catholic faith simultaneously breathing with both lungs as taught by Saint John Paul II in his encyclical Light of the East. This lecture will explore some of the hidden aspects of the life of this blessed Eastern Catholic woman, discussing Byzantine celebrations of Christmas and Pascha in particular.
