{"id":17,"date":"2015-10-27T10:24:55","date_gmt":"2015-10-27T14:24:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/centerforfacultydevelopment\/?p=17"},"modified":"2015-10-27T10:24:55","modified_gmt":"2015-10-27T14:24:55","slug":"heart-of-the-university-faculty-retreat-series-2015-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/centerforfacultydevelopment\/2015\/10\/27\/heart-of-the-university-faculty-retreat-series-2015-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Heart of the University, Faculty Retreat Series 2015-2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong><em>Heart of the University<\/em><\/strong> Retreat Series gives faculty and administrators of all faiths the opportunity for input and guided reflection.\u00a0 The series is co-sponsored by the Office of Mission and Ministry, and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership.<\/p>\n<p>The second retreat, given by Dr. Justin Anderson on the theme of <strong><em>Mercy and Community: The Marvelous Exchanges of a Prodigal Father <\/em><\/strong>will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Chancellor\u2019s Suite, Student Center.<\/p>\n<p>In the parable of the Prodigal Son, Jesus presents a paradigm of mercy which restores communion in a family. By exploring the symbolism of a \u201cJubilee,\u201d we explore mercy as a gift, trait, and journey, not only for individuals, but also for communities and for the Church. In this exploration, we find that \u2013 like the parable \u2013 it is not the son who is prodigal, so much as the Father\u2019s love.<\/p>\n<p>Justin M. Anderson, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Moral Theology in the School of Theology. He earned both his Ph.D. and M.Phil. from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Louvain).
