Theology and Science Reading Group
The Theology and Science Reading Group is a new group for Seton Hall faculty and graduate students to discuss foundational questions at the intersection of theology and science. Each semester, the group will meet on the last Thursday of the month in Lewis Hall. While readings will be provided in advance of each meeting, our discussions will focus primarily on the broader questions and issues they raise. No background in theology and science is required; the group is open to anybody with an interest in the philosophical, historical, and sociological questions arising from the relationship between theology and science.
In Spring 2025, the group will discuss selections from Peter Harrison’s Some New World (Cambridge University Press, 2024). Harrison was formerly the Andreas Idreos Professor of Science and Religion at the University of Oxford. In this book, he challenges a number of misconceptions about the historical relationship between science and religion and encourages us to reconsider how they relate to each other today.
Dates and Times: January 30, February 27, March 27, April 24, 2025; each meeting at 3pm-4pm.
Location: Faculty Conference Room, Lewis Hall (Immaculate Conception Seminary)
