Speaker: Wendy Pearlman, author of “The Home I Worked To Make: Voices from the New Syrian Diaspora”

April 9, 5:00pm – 6:00pm, Chancellor’s Suite, University Center (lower level)

In The Home I Worked to Make: Voices from the New Syrian Diaspora, Northwestern University professor Wendy Pearlman presents a tapestry of personal testimonials that begins with stories of revolution and war and then follows refugees’ journeys around the world as they reflect on losing home, searching for home, and rethinking the meaning of home. Based on original interviews with more than 500 displaced Syrians on five continents and a finalist for the 2025 Dayton Literary Peace Prize, this interview collection provides a human window into one of the most inspiring liberation struggles of our times, as well as broader lessons about identity, migration, diaspora, and belonging.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Refreshments will be served.

This event is sponsored by the Center for Faculty Development and the Campus Belonging and Community Committee.
