Deacons: “Driving Force For the Church’s Service”

by | Nov 20, 2025 | Blogs, Current News

In part 2 of Diaconal Formation and Leadership Today video series, Deacon Andy Saunders discusses with Deacon Ray Duplechain, Director of the Diaconate for the Archdiocese of New Orleans that deacons have a particular charism of service which is sacramentalized at ordination. It is an “on your knees” washing feet mentality modeled after Jesus Christ. Both Pope St. Paul VI and later Pope St. John Paul II would refer to the deacon as the “driving force for the church’s service.”

The series was filmed in New Orleans at the Old Ursuline Convent, the National World War II Museum, and the Basilica of St. Stephen.
