Through its newsletter, website, and biannual meeting, the Aphra Behn Society seeks to promote an exchange of information and ideas among members of the various disciplines engaged in related research.\u201d\u00a0 Her own works remain a popular source of research among scholars and students alike, but promoting the value of the printed word in its varied forms is a consistent theme that latter day readers often recognize.\u00a0 In other words, Aphra Behn noted in the pages of her work \u2013 <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/work\/quotes\/2044946\">The Lucky Chance, Or, the Alderman&#8217;s Bargain<\/a> <\/em>(1686) a love of books, but more specifically: \u201cThat perfect tranquility of life, which is nowhere to be found but in retreat, a faithful friend and a good library.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-21.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1209\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-21.jpg\" alt=\"instructions for managing bees.\" width=\"130\" height=\"255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-21.jpg 746w, https:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-21-153x300.jpg 153w, https:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-21-521x1024.jpg 521w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 130px) 85vw, 130px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-19.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-2\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1211\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-19.jpg\" alt=\"The war in America.\" width=\"146\" height=\"255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-19.jpg 829w, https:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-19-172x300.jpg 172w, https:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-19-587x1024.jpg 587w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 146px) 85vw, 146px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-30.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-3\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1212\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/archives\/files\/2015\/10\/rb-30.jpg\" alt=\"Figure and Fashion: a scuffle in high life\" width=\"153\" height=\"254\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In honor of the example set by Aphra Behn combined with ties to this event, Professors Karen Gevirtz, Ph.D. of the Department of English and Kirsten Schultz, Ph.D. of the Department of History looked through our catalog of Rare Book holdings and have chosen various titles that reflected a growing depth and diversity of scholarship from the 17-19<sup>th<\/sup> century.\u00a0 Some images from the public exhibit (viewable in our Reading Room) are included in this post, but a full list of titles can be found here &#8211;
