Annual Freshman Gala

By: Ashley Jefferson, Leadership Class of 2015

Each year, the freshman class of the Leadership Program has the honor of planning a gala for all Leadership members to attend. It is a night where everyone looks fabulous and enjoys themselves with food and entertainment. On Thursday February 23rd, the Leadership Class of 2015 hosted the annual Freshman Gala. This year, with my leadership, the freshman class decided on the theme of Casino Night.

To plan the gala, the freshmen were given $600 and creative freedom. The entire class planned and executed all of the details: purchasing food, booking the room, purchasing decorations, etc. As the day of the event came closer, everyone helped out to make certain that the finishing touches were put on with care and perfection. By the time members of the class of 2015 were finished decorating, the walls were decorated with black, white, and red streamers with Casino signs and enlarged cut out cards hung around the 4th Floor Atrium. Every table had a casino inspired centerpiece, balloons, and goody bags that everyone could take with them.

To begin the night, the Class of 2015 presented Director Mike Reuter with a gift to thank him for his dedication to the program. Shortly after, the fun was well underway! Students enjoyed themselves by dancing to songs like “The Cupid Shuffle” or competing for prizes at the card tables. The energy was high and by the end of the night, the guests in attendance could not stop gushing about what a great time they had!
