Group Mentoring
An additional Group Mentoring session occurred on Monday night, Octboer 25, 2011. Below, Dhara Patel, Class of 2014, captures a summary of last week’s session with her group. The students in this group are all Accounting majors and have the chance to connect and work with executives with experience at ATT, Juniper Networks, VM Advisory Group, Chubb, Liz Claiborne, and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Their key discussion points were as follows:
- The best way to create a team atmosphere is to directly communicate with one another and to let each other know that you value them and their work.
- No matter what your age or experience level, you must always have confidence in yourself and your decisions.
- Not all interview stories have to be positive or about success. You can turn a weakness or a story about a “failure” into a positive experience.
- Be mindful of other people’s cultures and personalities while you interview, or simply converse with them.
- It is okay to admit if you don’t know an answer to something or have not been exposed to such a situation.
- Anecdotes about personal struggles or interesting experiences are most memorable to the interviewer and the interviewee.
