American Heart Association Walk

Kevin Cummings, President and CEO of Investors Bank, invited Seton Hall University to participate in a challenge to raise money for the American Heart Association’s 2011-2012 Essex County Heart Walk. Seton Hall, along with the College of St. Elizabeth, Fairleigh Dickinson, Drew, Montclair State and Bloomfield University will be vying for the top fundraiser position. Investor’s Bank will donate to the three schools that achieve the largest fundraising dollars and will receive a matching amount to the funds that they raise.

The Leadership Development Honors Program has demonstrated a great sense of initiative and has taken on a pivotal role in the challenge by working hard to gain donations through fundraisers on and off campus. All of the Seton Hall organizations involved have raised about $2,000 in total.  Leadership has raised nearly $500 (half of the $1,000 goal) alone through bake sales and general donations.

Rita’s of South Orange donated a tub of ice to Leadership earlier this month which was sold as a fundraiser as well.  On October 18th, Stony’s Restaurant hosted a fundraising event in which 10% of each participant’s bill was donated to the American Heart Association.

The Essex County Walk was held on Sunday, October 16th in Roseland and on Friday, October 21st an on-campus walk will be held at the Sheila and Richard Regan Field House from 12pm to 3pm.  The event will be very similar to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in which one member must be walking at all times.

Fundraising continues until Monday, October 31st.  Leadership students, their family and friends can donate online at the Leadership Development Honors Program team page until then.
