Three Minute Leadership: Exuberance – A Passion for Life

To:  The Great Leaders Who Have a Passion for Continuous Learning

Dr. Kay Redfield Jamison in her book, Exuberance, a Passion for Life, writes: “Exuberance is a psychological state characterized by high mood and high energy…. Exuberance is an abounding, ebullient, effervescent emotion. It is kinetic and unrestrained, joyful, irrepressible. It is not happiness, although they share a border. It is instead, at its core, a more restless, billowing state.”  People who are exuberant, she writes, are incapable of being indifferent.  It never occurs to them not to try to make a difference.  It is in their nature to be resilient, risk-takers, explorers and creators.  Their hallmark is “the execution of ideas through passion that makes a difference.”  This is the stuff of great leaders… of living a rich and exciting life.

Sheilah Graham, columnist, wrote:  “You can have anything you want if you want it desperately enough.  You must want it with an inner exuberance that erupts through the skin and joins the energy that created the world.”  Fill the moments of your days with incredible exuberance and restlessness to discover new possibilities that will make a difference – to your business, family, community and those whom you serve.  As you do, remember symphony conductor Roger Nierenberg’s definition of a leader:  “A leader is someone who commits to what hasn’t happened yet.”  Makes things happen, change the world, and have fun doing it!

Have a beautiful day and a fantastic week!!!
