Three Minute Leadership- Change your Words.. Change your World
To: The Great Leaders Who Have a Passion for Continuous Learning
In her YouTube video, The Power of Words 2: Change Your Words, Change Your World, Andrea Gardner pictures a man waking each morning to his alarm clock. It rings out: “Time to go to work.” Sluggishly he responds to the droning voice. Intently, he braces himself for another day of drudgery. Later, a change has occurred. He is pictured awakening to the alarm clock that now greets him with the words: “Time to make a difference.” What a magnificent change these words produce in shaping his perspective of his new day.
Great leaders are aware of the importance of these small, but magnificent, changes that impact their own life and that of others. They use words like opportunity or challenge for problem. Failures are viewed as learnings. They choose to do, rather than hope or try. Their response to the question: How are you today? is not “I am good.” They choose to say “I am great.” Their words create a new world for themselves and them. These small difference stretch them and those whom they serve to new possibilities and higher levels of achievement. Their words excite, drive action and inspire and motivate. Most important to remember, they reflect what they want to be or do, not the roadblock with which they are faced.
Ludwig Wittgenstein, Austrian-British philosopher, wrote: “The limits of my language means the limits of my world.” Reset your alarm clock today. Choose words that open your life and world. Have a ‘beautiful day’ each day of your life… and have fun doing it.
Have a beautiful day and a magnificent week!!!
