Three Minute Leadership- One of the Most Powerful Forces in the Universe
To: The Great Leaders Who Have a Passion for Continuous Learning
In the film, Men in Black III, the character K asks the question: “What is the most powerful force in the universe?” His response to his question is riveting and thought-provoking: it is regret. Regret is powerful because it is a wise teacher, one which gives us great learning – from the things that we did and those that we didn’t do… from what we experienced or what could have been – the unfulfilled accomplishments of goals, pursuit happiness, of dreams that complete and fulfill our life’s purpose. The greatest regrets are not from things done, but from words left unsaid, deeds undone and dreams not realized.
Sydney Smith, English clergyman and essayist, writes: “Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable.” Alexander Graham Bell, American inventor, stated: “When one door closes, another opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.” Jonathan Safran Foer, American author, wrote: “The mistakes I’ve made are dead to me. But I can’t take back the things I never did.”
Live each day with incredible passion, love, joy and excitement. Set fire to your world with your enthusiasm and love of life and all that it holds. Don’ let a day go by when you haven’t pushed yourself to the limits to discover those magnificent gifts within yourself… and others. Live each day to its fullest that at the end of days, in those last moments with joy in your voice you proclaim proudly: “No regrets! I have lived my life to its fullest. My journey has been magnificent.” Remember the words of Nelson Mandela on living life: “There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” Carpe diem… each glorious and awesome one. They will be beautiful… because you choose them to be. And have fun doing it.
Have a beautiful day and a magnificent week!!!
Mike
