Group Mentoring
By: Stephanie Gonzalez, Leadership Class of 2014
As a group leader I greatly benefit from the Group Mentoring program because I create meetings with different executives from companies such as Securitas and Chubb Insurance, and students from all grades. So far we have discussed topics such as social media in the business world, interview skills, and a plain overall view of what the business environment is like. It gives students a heads up of what is to come, and also the necessary interaction with business personnel. Chatting over pizza does not seem like it is a big deal, but the way we present ourselves markets our potential to work for these business executives. It also markets the value of the Leadership Development Honors Program, the Stillman School of Business, and Seton Hall University in general.
This program has opened my eyes, as well as the attention of my group. We don’t have many meetings because of the major constraint of conflicting schedules, but the monthly meetings we have had prove to be immensely important. Our set topics usually stray to whatever questions the students have in their minds. This way there is a sense of comfort in talking with business professionals and a growing knowledge of the field we are all striving to be apart of. So even if we are talking about the world’s economy, we may stray off to talk about the technology industry. This is a great highlight in this program, and I am happy to be a part of making it grow.
