Apps

Apps, short for ‘applications’, is the sexy buzz-term for different programs you can use on a traditional computer/laptop, tablet, and/or smartphone.  While the term ‘app’ has been around for a while it has become more poplar with the advent of smartphones and tablets.  Instead of referring to the programs we use on computers as software or software applications, the shortened ‘App’ has become the more popular term used today.

With the rising popularity of the ‘App’ term has also come a steep increase in the number of applications available for use on a computer/laptop, tablet, smartphone, or other mobile device.  Which leads us to the typical dilemma of which one to use?  How do I find and evaluate potential apps?  This series of posts is aimed to help teachers to identify the apps worth the time to download and try out in the classroom.  It will includes tips for researching and evaluating potential apps as well as feature specific apps that have been tried and recommended.  The featured apps are presented in individual posts to create an annotated “Appliography.”
