{"id":33,"date":"2012-01-04T12:55:20","date_gmt":"2012-01-04T16:55:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/vml\/?page_id=33"},"modified":"2017-06-16T12:53:40","modified_gmt":"2017-06-16T16:53:40","slug":"teaching-tools","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/vml\/teaching-tools\/","title":{"rendered":"Teaching Tools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>These are lesson plans that can be used, or adapted, for classroom use.\u00a0 The subject matter is interfaith relations\/religious studies.<\/p>\n<h2>High School<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/ModernTurkey.doc\" target=\"_blank\">Modern Turkey<\/a><strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0Students will be able to analyze Mustafa Kemal Ataturk\u2019s secularization reforms and modern Turkey\u2019s efforts to create a new understanding of Islam\u2019s role in public life.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/AlhambraEdictDramatization.doc\" target=\"_blank\">The Alhambra Edict<\/a><strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0Through the study of a primary source, students will be able to explain the reasons behind Ferdinand &amp; Isabella\u2019s decision to order Spain\u2019s Jews to convert to Christianity or be exiled.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/AlhambraEdictDramatization.doc\" target=\"_blank\">Alhambra Edict Dramatization<\/a><strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0Through study of the leaders of Spain in 1492, students will be able to explain the reasons behind Ferdinand &amp; Isabella\u2019s decision to order Spain\u2019s Jews to convert to Christianity or be exiled. Lesson plan takes the form of acting out the deliberations of the conversion\/expulsion order.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/CrusadesTimeline.doc\" target=\"_blank\">Crusades Timeline<\/a><strong>:\u00a0<\/strong>Students will be able to explain the course of the Crusades and the fall of the Crusader states. Lesson plan is the creation of a timeline.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/JesusDepictedArt.doc\">Jesus as Depicted in Art<\/a>: Using art, this lesson plan shows how Jesus is often depicted as a member of the same ethnic or racial group as the artist.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/SaudiArabiaTechnologyConservativism.doc\">Saudi Arabia: Technology and Conservativism<\/a>\u00a0This lesson is about the state of science in the Islamic world. This lesson shows how the Islamic world is attempting to regain the leadership in science that it once enjoyed.<\/p>\n<h2>Middle School<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/MonotheisticReligionsWorksheet.doc\">Monotheistic Religions Worksheet<\/a>\u00a0This lesson plan has students learn basic facts about Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.<br \/>\nJeffrey S. Bennett<\/p>\n<h2>Elementary School<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/KaleidoscopeOfKidsActivity.doc\">Kaleidoscope of Kids<\/a>: Students will learn not to prejudge others because they are different. This lesson for kindergarteners entails using kaleidoscopes to teach tolerance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/CaringCompassion.doc\">Caring, Compassion<\/a>: This lesson teaches the importance of accepting others by writing a class story about caring for others, regardless of race, nationality, gender, religion, or disabilities.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/FriendlinessEmpathy.doc\">Friendliness, Empathy<\/a>: This lesson is a demonstration that people, like eggs, come in many sizes, shapes, and colors but they are the same on the inside.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/KindnessCaring2-4.doc\">Kindness, Caring<\/a>: This lesson entails students keeping journals on kindness and caring. The lesson plan suggests books that promote kindness and caring in children.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/tltc.shu.edu\/vml\/tools\/KindKids.doc\">Kind Kids<\/a>: This lesson also promotes kindness and caring.
