{"id":612,"date":"2018-01-15T15:41:31","date_gmt":"2018-01-15T20:41:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/vietnamportraits\/?p=612"},"modified":"2018-04-05T13:23:09","modified_gmt":"2018-04-05T17:23:09","slug":"nva-vc-training-camp-in-cambodia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blogs.shu.edu\/vietnamportraits\/2018\/01\/15\/nva-vc-training-camp-in-cambodia\/","title":{"rendered":"NVA\/VC Training Camp in Cambodia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vietnamportfolio.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/09\/cambodia-nva-camp-3.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-679\" src=\"https:\/\/vietnamportfolio.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/09\/cambodia-nva-camp-3.jpg?w=300&#038;resize=312%2C201\" alt=\"Cambodia NVA Camp 3\" width=\"312\" height=\"201\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the second day in Cambodia an AP reporter, photographer and I were taken to a NVA\/VC\u00a0training camp in the jungle near the border with Vietnam.\u00a0 The photographer was Henri Huet, well-known AP photographer who had covered the wars in Vietnam for many years, first with the French and then the Americans (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apimages.com\/Collection\/Landing\/Photographer-Henri-Huet-Vietnam-War\/f8713143bd31444684a7db49d8846231\">http:\/\/www.apimages.com\/Collection\/Landing\/Photographer-Henri-Huet-Vietnam-War\/f8713143bd31444684a7db49d8846231<\/a>).\u00a0 Getting to the camp required a half days trek on a trail through the jungle terrain. \u00a0Just before we got to the camp\u00a0the troops burned down a hooch similar to the one pictured here.\u00a0 Their reasoning was that because it was\u00a0so close to an NVA\/VC\u00a0 training camp its\u00a0owners must have been sympathetic to the enemy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vietnamportfolio.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/09\/hooch.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-697\" src=\"https:\/\/vietnamportfolio.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/09\/hooch.jpg?w=300&#038;resize=269%2C269\" alt=\"color negative: KODAK VERICOLOR III Pro.
