Paul Berkowitz, Former First Lieutenant, Re-Visits Vietnam

When Former 1st. Lt. Paul Berkowitz returned from his visit to Vietnam several years ago he created a video account of his trip that included footage shot there in 1970 when he was a combat photographer for the 221 Signal Co.

  1. I served in Chu Lai in 1966 with the US Marine Corps’ 1t Division, 1st Tank Battalion. I was a field-radio operator, and we did not care for “Good Morning Vietnam”. Instead, we preferred listening to Hanoi Hanna. On one broadcast, we heard her mention our unit and she named some of the men in our company and said we would all be dead soon and our mothers, wives and girlfriends would be grieving.

Hanoi Hanna lied. All she accomplished was to put us all on hyper alert. After that, it was dangerous returning to camp from a night patrol. I was on one patrol where the Marines inside the wire up with .50 calibers. That was a dicey thrill.
