About Us

UN_studies

The Center for UN and Global Governance Studies, an institutional member of the Academic Council on the United Nations System, was created in January 2014.  Martin Edwards, Associate Professor at Seton Hall’s School of Diplomacy and International Relations, was designated the inaugural director. The Center was founded with a number of distinct goals:

To serve as a mechanism for coordinating faculty and student research.
Over the next five years, the center will develop research around a series of annual themes, and invite speakers to campus to give public talks on those research themes. In 2014-2015, we will be developing a research project on public opinion on the UN system, both in the US and abroad.

To serve as a voice for outreach on United Nations scholarship.
Academic research is more than peer reviewed articles and books. Public scholarship needs to be more timely, more relevant, and more concise. Through our blog posts, our twitter feed,  and our growing research agenda, we will contribute to global discussions that will both advance debate and redefine scholarship.

To serve as a site for programmatically strengthening the School of Diplomacy and International Relations.
Academia is more than just research. This center is an ideal vehicle to not only build deeper engagement with school partners, but also to expand the range of experiences and opportunities for our students.
