The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and partners announced the 15 winners of the

Equator Prize 2017, recognizing local and indigenous communities from Africa, Asia, and

Latin America. The winning organizations, which showcase innovative solutions for tackling poverty, environment, and climate challenges, will be honored at a celebratory gala in New York on September 17, 2017.

The launch of a new UN Report, coordinated by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), looked at how we can use tech to fast-forward progress in achieving the SDGs. How can new technologies accelerate progress towards realizing the Global Goals? What is needed to harness the power of information and communication technologies to ensure that the benefits of e-agriculture, e-health or e-education are achieved in a fully inclusive manner?

These questions are addressed in the report launched on 13 July 2017.

UNHCR and NGO Food Sweet Food launched the Refugee Food Festival in 13 major European cities in support of refugee integration The French-born initiative started last year as a partnership between the NGO Food Sweet Food and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, with the support of partners, citizens, local authorities, restaurants and private businesses. Thanks to the universal power of food, the Festival has 3 main objectives: change perceptions of refugees, accelerate their professional integration, and discover cuisines from all over the world.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Ms. Jayathma

Wickramanayake of Sri Lanka as his next Envoy on Youth. She will succeed Ahmad Alhendawi of Jordan to whom the Secretary-General is grateful for his dedicated service in

addressing the needs and rights of young people, bringing the work of the United Nations closer to them. The success of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development depends on

empowering young people as rights-holders, agents of change and torchbearers.
