MakerSpace Days
Friday’s 10am – 2:30pm in the CTC (Exploration Space)

 

3D Printing – Pencil Cups and Nameplates | September 23rd

Join us for a day of creating 3D objects!
During this hands-on workshop, participants will create two 3D models using easy to use web-based 3D design software. The first model will be a pen/pencil cup. The second model will be a customized nameplate.

Participants will have the opportunity to submit their 3D models for printing, and their objects will be available for pick-up the following week. Participants will also have the option of submitting additional 3D models for printing.
Late drop-ins are welcome.

 

Virtual Reality – Google Cardboard | September 30th

Join us for a day of investigating the potential of Virtual Reality!
Explore Google Earth, view 360-degree photos, and immerse yourself in 3D Video.
We will be taking a specific look at VR environments from the American Museum of Natural History, the Guggenheim Museum, and The New York Times VR
Please bring a smartphone to participate; Cardboard viewers will be provided.
Late drop-ins are welcome.

 

Raspberry Pi / Arduino’s – Internet of Things (IoT) Integration | October 7th

Join us for a day of investigating the Raspberry Pi and Arduino!
We will start by taking a look at how these small, inexpensive computers are being leveraged to create everything from a video display board, to a home theatre PC, to a weather station that automatically updates a website.
Participants will have an opportunity to get hands-on with the Raspberry Pi, install the “Raspbian OS”, and discuss potential projects.
Late drop-ins are welcome.

 

3D Printing – Halloween Ghosts & Jack-o-Lantern Lithographs | October 14th

Join us for a day of creating Halloween 3D objects!
During this hands-on workshop, participants will create two 3D models using easy to use 3D design software. The first model will be a Jack-O-Lantern Lithograph. The second model will be a glow-in-the-dark Ghost refrigerator magnet.
Participants will have the opportunity to submit their 3D models for printing, and their objects will be available for pick-up the following week.

Digital Makes – Free Tools for Photo Editing, Video Editing, and Website Construction | November 4th

Join us for a day of exploring free software available for creating and editing photo’s, video’s, and websites!
Photo

  • Browser based photo editing (crop, resize, recolor, add text)
  • Open Source software (GIMP)

Video

  • Built into Windows (record your web camera)
  • Skype for Business (record your web camera and/or your desktop)
  • Office Mix (record your web camera, PowerPoint presentation, and/or your desktop)

Web

  • Creating web forms
  • Automatically publishing data from Raspberry Pi / Arduino’s
  • Designing for web browsers and mobile devices

Join us for an afternoon of creating Winter 3D objects!
During this hands-on workshop, participants will have the opportunity to create 3D models using easy to use web-based 3D design software. The first model will be a snowflake. The second model will be a snowman.
Participants will have the opportunity to submit their 3D models for printing, and their objects will be available for pick-up the following week.
