This evening at approximately 6:45 PM that campus Internet connection was interrupted due to problems with the campus firewall. This caused all campus services, including the Web page, email, PirateNet, and Banner, to be unavailable from off campus, and the Internet to be unreachable from on campus. Internet service was restored at approximately 8:15 PM. At that time all services were restored except for PirateNet; the firewall problems caused PirateNet services to hang, requiring rebooting the PirateNet servers. PirateNet service was restored approximately 10:00 PM.
Update 5/16/2011: Last week’s incidents with the campus firewall were traced to a software bug. The vendor is fixing this issue this week. We do not expect this problem to recur.
