Spring 2014 Elections Timeline

Interest Meetings (All interested applicants MUST attend one):  December 9, 2013; January 22, 2014 and February 17, 2014

Applications Due: Monday, February 24, 2014

By Laws Exam: Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Campaign Period: Monday, March 17, 2014 –  Sunday, March 30, 2014

Meet the Candidates: Monday March 24, 2014

Elections: Monday, March 31, 2014 & Tuesday, April 1, 2014

Installation: Monday, April 7, 2014

First Joint Senate: Monday, April 14, 2014





701.1 The Elections Committee shall meet with the SGA Advisor to set dates for the following events, in the respective timeline:

  1. At least three Interest Meetings : one in December, one in January, and one in February

  2. Application Deadline (one week from the last interest meeting)

  3. Start of Campaign

    1. Meet the Candidate Forum (one week before election)

    2. Campaign ends after two weeks.

    3. Two Consecutive Election Days

    4. Deadline for Appeals (16 hours from closing of polls)

    5. Finalization of Elections (24 hours from closing of polls)

    6. Installation Ceremony

    7. 1st Joint Session of the Senate


702.1   All candidates must represent the constituency of the office they are seeking, must be a full time student, have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and have no open judicial file with the Department of Community Development.

 702.2.1 All  candidates must attend the following events to validate their candidacy, unless granted  an excuse from the Elections Committee:

(a)   Interest Meeting

(b)   Meet the Candidates

(c)   Leadership Conference

 702.3 All candidates must seek petition signatures to validate their candidacy, to be submitted with their application.  The following minimums are enacted, and must be members of the constituency for the office sought:

(a)   SGA Executive Board- (200)

(b)   SGA Senate- (100),

(c)   except International Senator (40)

            (d) Class Council- (100)

702.4 All candidates seeking positions on the Executive Board of the Student Government Association must have served as a Senate member for approximately 1 semester.

702.5 Candidates seeking Executive Board Positions of the Student Government Association must also fulfill knowledge requirements of the organization by undergoing an examination of the SGA by-laws.

702.6 All candidates must abide by all of the guidelines set forth in this title, and those further established by the Elections Committee.  All candidates must submit a signed affidavit of their knowledge of the procedures and policies.

 702.7 Any violation or ignorance of the above policies, or those defined in the elections guidelines may result in a rejection of candidacy.  All candidates will be notified of their eligibility before the start of the campaign cycle.
